The Sister/Charge Nurse/Charge ODP is to work as a skilled member of the Orthopaedic/Trauma theatre team, providing a high standard of clinical care.

The Sister/Charge Nurse/Charge ODP is required to work shifts Mon - Fri during day shifts and expected to participate in the provision of a 24 hour theatre service, taking charge of the department outside normal working hours when required.

The Sister/Charge Nurse/Charge ODP must retain the ability to work flexibly by maintaining a high level of skills in 2 areas of practice (scrub specialties, anaesthetics or recovery) and at least one area of advanced practice or must commence advanced training within 6 months

Where the Sister/Charge Nurse/CODP is required to practice as a Surgical First Assistant role they must have evidence of completion of an appropriate, competency based training prior to selection for this post

1. Participate in the planning, implementation and assessing of patient care.

2. Work as a flexible theatre practitioner in full support of the theatre team

3. Ensure that all documentation is completed accurately, legibly, and confidentiality is maintained.

4. Maintain NMC/HCPC registration and practice within the code of professional conduct where applicable.

5. Perform operating department duties in accordance with agreed policies.

6. Adhere to guidelines and policies pertaining to the safe administration and storage of medicines within the department.

7. Participate in the provision of 24hr cover of the department as directed by the Clinical Theatre Manager / Matron / Patient Service Manager.

8. When required participate in the interdepartmental rotation within your scope of practice.

9. Ensure Maintenance of good working relationships, communication and teamwork with all disciplines within the theatre department, wards / departments in the hospital.

10. Participate in the training a development of junior staff including scrub healthcare support workers.

11. Liaise with other multidisciplinary teams including but not limited to the Bed manager, clinicians, ward staff and departments to ensure the patient is entered on the relevant care pathway for timely treatment.
