The role comprises of 10 Programmed Activities (PA's) per week.

Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of attaining Specialist Registration at the time of interview.

To work well amongst colleagues to ensuring a high quality and safe service.

To supervise junior doctors and to lead trauma, cardiac and paediatric arrest calls within the Emergency Department.

On call commitments include attending the department out of hours for all significant trauma calls, sick unstable paediatric presentations, or when patient safety is at risk due to high acuity and attendances.

About us

Our ED is a state of the art £6.2million new build completed in December 2014, and future proofs emergency care at Airedale. The ED benefits from a 4-bed resuscitation room (1 dedicated paediatric bay), 18 treatment rooms including an eye/ENT room, a paediatric HDU room. We have a co-located ENP led minor injuries unit. There are separate paediatric and adult waiting areas, X-ray facilities and a plaster room are within the department and there is an excellent departmental ultrasound machine. CT services are co-located and supported by 24/7 on-site radiographer cover supporting timely access to CT. There is an excellent co-located psychiatric liaison nurse service.

The department benefits from a purpose built co-located multi-specialty Acute Assessment Unit and Ambulatory Care Unit enabling high quality same-day emergency care (SDEC), and strong collaborative relationships with inpatient specialty colleagues.

The ED team currently comprises 11 Consultants and 1 Associate Specialist working partially annualised hours. The consultant team are supported by a 13-person middle tier consisting of ST3-ST6 trainees rotating from HEE Yorkshire and Humber as well as a growing number of trust / SAS doctors.

We are actively supporting many of our SAS doctors through FRCEM and CESR. In addition to our junior tier, we currently have 4 ACP’s working towards RCEM credentialing and are exploring further diversity of the workforce through the utilisation of physicians’ associates.

- Basic medical degree
- FRCEM or appropriate specialist qualification
- Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
- CCT in Emergency Medicine or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of interview)
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register
- ALS, ATLS, APLS
