An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, hardworking and committedlead clinicianin the Paediatric service at the UHS-East Audiology team.
This is a full-time post, joining the existing paediatric leads, to collaboratively develop and deliver our paediatric Audiology services.
The service focuses on the assessment and rehabilitation of patients having audiovestibular impairment and/or auditory processing difficulties. We are the regional centre for Bone Conduction and Middle Ear Implants.
Within this role there may also be an opportunity to be involved in paediatric vestibular audiology.
You will be expected to work closely with the whole team, supporting developments and assisting the Head of Audiology and other team leads in meeting the department goals.

Joint lead clinician for the paediatric service in Audiology UHS-Brighton, providing specialist advice for the assessment and rehabilitation of patients having audiovestibular impairment and/or auditory processing difficulties.
Responsible for working with the other paediatric rehabilitation leads to give clinical direction to the paediatric service, within the boundaries set by the Head of Audiology.
To monitor the paediatric service budget to ensure that income and expenditure balance and that procurement lies within fiscal boundaries.
To continually monitor clinical pathways to ensure lean working with efficient use of resources.
To monitor the DM01/RTT position of the paediatric service and ensure that the Head of Audiology is appraised of threats to breaching, together with suggestions for remedial actions when needed.

- To provide complex, sensitive and contentious advice to patients regarding their audiovestibular status having been referred for consultation by other health professionals, including primary care workers, medical consultants, community practitioners and junior audiology staff. Such advice is delivered within an emotive atmosphere. To advise and develop interventions and rehabilitation programmes based upon autonomous clinical opinion, taking into account the impact on the patient and their families, which may involve referral onwards to relevant intervention programmes such as cochlear implant programmes.
- To provide advanced theoretical and clinical knowledge to a range of practitioners, including training of ENT junior and senior medical staffing, general practitioners, community and hospital paediatricians, allied practitioners, health visitors, neonatal nurses, clinical science trainees and audiologists. To lecture and present scientific papers at national conferences.
- To provide complex analytical and judgement skills in order to make contentious autonomous interpretation of clinical data from patients of all ages who may have complex audiovestibular dysfunctions, where conflicting clinical data require interpretation and judgement. To have specialist knowledge for supporting children and young people with learning disabilities and complex neurological compromise, and the legal frameworks regarding paediatric safeguarding and the rights of the disability discrimination act.
