Urban Designer/senior Urban Designer

**The opportunity**:
Are you an Urban Designer looking to work on projects of the highest quality and make a real difference to the communities around you? Are you keen to join a growing team in our brand new Manchester city centre office?

We have an exciting opportunity for an Urban Designer or Senior Urban Designer to join our Northern Masterplanning team. Our multi-disciplinary Manchester office has teams across Town Planning, Urban Design, Graphics, Heritage, Economics, Transport, Ecology, Acoustics and Engineering. We have recently moved into exciting new premises in **100 Barbirolli Square** in the heart of Manchester city centre.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing design team in Manchester whilst being fully supported by wider regional colleagues. In your local office there is a well-established Town Planning team who provide excellent cross collaboration and business development opportunities. Typical projects include major residential led, mixed-use development masterplans and layouts, and public realm work of the highest quality across the North. This includes new communities, new settlements, as well as town and city centre masterplanning, and regeneration. Our clients include landowners, bespoke local developers, Registered Providers, national house builders and more, providing an enviable and loyal client list.Projects are typically those considered by clients to be more complex and challenging, needing the innovative and creative technical expertise and approach that we pride ourselves on. You will be an integral part of our innovative inter-disciplinary environment.

**About you**:
You will hold an MA or Postgraduate Diploma in Urban Design with a passion for creating new high quality and sustainable communities. You will have experience of working on UK medium to large scale residential and mixed-use development masterplans and layouts. You will be a confident user of AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketchup and Microsoft Packages and hold a full UK driving licence with access to a car.

Your role will include:

- Contributing to the design process by producing masterplans, diagrams and documents
- Conducting site, context and character appraisals to inform the design for new developments.
- Developing exciting and deliverable visions for new settlements and extensions to existing towns.
- Working up masterplan drawings, design strategies and detailed illustrations to support design principles.
- Producing indicative layouts for either parts of or whole developments.
- Producing urban design concepts supported by well-considered design rationales that take account of technical constraints.
- Colouring drawings by hand or using design software.
- Supporting the production/testing of concepts for the arrangement of land uses on site.
- Supporting the production of comprehensive design and access statements comprising of written and graphic outputs, taking responsibility for, and delivering information packages including reports.
- Assisting the team to produce comprehensive Design Codes.
- Working alongside local communities and other stakeholders through collaborative design workshops and public exhibitions
