We now have an excellent opportunity for a Buyer/Planner, to join our busy Team based in our manufacturing site in Basingstoke.
The Role
The Buyer/Planner will place external purchase orders in line with production requirements and non-stock purchase orders in line with requisition approval requirements. Expedite suppliers to ensure parts and services are delivered on time and ensure sufficient capacity exists within the supply chain and if required identify gaps and drive the introduction of new suppliers.
Skills and Experience
Although not essential, continuous improvement training, CIPS accreditation and/or an HND/degree qualification would be advantageous.
- To raise & schedule Purchase Orders (PO) to deliver goods and services at the right quality and price and in a timeframe that meets the business needs in line with the ERP system
- Analyse, maintain & adjust the ERP parameters regularly on purchased items to maintain accuracy in the system, e.g. safety stock, lead-time, re-order point, re-order quantity, order multiples, etc.
- Maintain and update of delivery dates on all open purchase orders on the ERP system
- Expediting and reporting to management on status and update of parts and purchase orders, this includes acting on the exception messages from the ERP system and adding notes to the PO as required
- Representing Purchasing at regular production meetings, also liaising with the operational team and relevant Site Lead Operational Manager
- Maintain good customer and supplier relationships between departments and vendors
- Ensure Purchase Orders are raised correctly, and all relevant receipts are verified
- Create and maintain reports relevant to the expediting process
- Prompt resolution of and management of non-conforming product provided by the suppliers including processing supplier returns
- Work in conjunction with the Supplier Development Engineer to implement root cause investigation improvements with suppliers as required
- Supplier management and owning the supplier relationship
- Supplier visits and/or video calls as required to manage the supplier
- Process items as fast-track orders if identified as urgent
- Resolve invoice discrepancies in a timely manner
- Identify potential alternative suppliers and support management team in introduction of new suppliers ensuring first off supply is verified and signed off by the quality team
- Provide the Purchasing team with information to facilitate the development of purchasing price agreements.
- Negotiation of supplier prices and putting pricing contracts in place as required under the guidance and direction of the Purchasing Manager
