Principal Regulatory Counsel

Our legal team are growing and are seeking a Principal Regulatory Lawyer to join the team. You will be responsible for the provision of regulatory advisory services to the business, including advising on key strategic projects, providing legal advice tothe HL leadership team and other stakeholders, and managing legal risk across the business. You will be a member of the Funds & Regulatory Legal Team, part of the wider HL Legal Team. As a small but growing team of expert lawyers, working in a friendly andsupportive team, we provide legal advice, support and challenge to HL's regulated platform and funds businesses. We work closely with stakeholders at all levels of the business, our compliance and risk teams, and regulatory policy-makers and trade bodies,to deliver our strategic priorities and manage legal risk. Our aim is to support these priorities by providing the highest-quality advice and tools, allied to a deep understanding of the business and the regulatory environment in which we operate. We are lookingto add to our existing senior regulatory legal team with an additional regulatory expert, to help support that side of the business.
**What you'll be doing**
- Provide expert regulatory advice to the leadership team and other senior stakeholders.
- Manage the legal work streams required for the successful completion of regulatory projects within the business.
- Managing legal risk and resolving complex regulatory legal issues.
- Instruct and manage external counsel where specialist expertise is required.
- Help develop the legal team's training and knowledge function and play an active role in the supervision of trainees and more junior members of the team.
- Build and maintain networks internally and externally to gain insight in area of specialism and keep abreast of developments in relevant law and regulation.
- Take an active role in shaping the legal team's strategy and in achieving its strategic goals.
- Assist the General Counsel and Head of Regulatory Law with ad hoc projects as required.
- Lead on the development and implementation of appropriate standard-setting documents, templates, guidelines, FAQs and other tools to increase efficiency and consistency and manage legal risk
**About you**
- Qualified Solicitor (7+ years PQE).
- Experienced financial services regulatory lawyer, preferably within a retail context.
- Good understanding of UK financial service laws, including the FCA Handbook and related regulations.
- Able to proactively and effectively collaborate, translating complex matters into easily understood legal advice, offering practical and commercial implementation
- Exceptional technical and legal drafting skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to communicate effectively and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Able to negotiate confidently either verbally or in writing.
- Excellent attention to detail.
**Interview process**
This will be a 2-stage competency and behavioral based interview process, including a psychometric assessment.
**Working pattern**
We are based in Bristol, BS1 5HL. This role is a permanent role and full time. We have returned to the office, however for this role we offer a hybrid flexible working pattern to enable you the option of working from home and coming into the office.
