Agri-Food and BioSciences Institute (AFBI) is a leading provider of scientific research and services to government, non-governmental organisations and commercial organisations. We are sponsored by our key stakeholder, the Department of Agriculture Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA).

We are looking for a Principal Soil Biogeochemistry Researcher who will report to senior management within the Agri-Environment Branch (AEB). The aims of the Branch are to develop and sustain an integrated research effort with national and international recognition on nutrient management within agricultural systems, focusing particularly on the needs of Northern Ireland.

The post when joining AFBI, is at a Principal Scientific Officer level.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, horizon scanning scientist to lead and further develop the Soil Biogeochemistry and Ecology Programme and play a central role in delivering the soil carbon and above ground biomass components of the Northern Ireland Soil Nutrient Health Scheme. The post-holder will manage a number of Senior Scientific Officer Project Leaders and their staff and oversee research on soil biogeochemistry and its interaction with above and below ground ecology, with a particular focus on soil carbon sequestration and losses.

You must meet the following criteria;
- A minimum of 5 years post-doctoral research experience in leading scientific studies including the securing of relevant funding, related to soil biogeochemistry.
- A proven ability to disseminate scientific findings as evidenced by having published at least 5 peer reviewed journal publications in international ISI listed scientific journals** as first or senior author and present research findings to a wide range of audiences including stakeholders, technical and scientific staff.
- A minimum of 3 years post graduate experience of leading a research team.**Our reference**: SE3329
