**Part-time Health, Safety and Environment Officer**
**Up to £45,000 per annum pro rata, depending on experience**
**2 to 3 days per week, Monday to Friday**

**Location - Whetstone (LE8 6NU)**
As part of our ongoing Growth Plan, we are seeking to broaden our internal expertise through the appointment of a Health and Safety Officer; a newly scoped and exciting role. With huge growth potential, this will be an excellent opportunity for the rightperson to truly make their mark. This role will suit someone from an SME background who is passionate about delivering results through Health and Safety initiatives.
**IN DETAIL **
Using your knowledge and skills, promote a positive health and safety culture in the workplace. You are responsible for ensuring that the company and its employees comply with safety legislation and that safety policies and practices are adopted and adheredto ensuring a safe workplace environment without risk to health.
- Identify hazards, performing risk assessments and implementing control measures to ensure the risk of injury is reduced or eliminated.
- Establish a full programme of documented health & safety inspections, audits and checks advising management of any improvements required.
- Complete departmental induction and orientation of new employees by providing information on hazards and risks in the workplace, job instruction, training and supervision as is necessary to ensure safe work for employees.
- Ensure that safety inspections are carried out, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, risk assessments and lone working procedures are managed and employees are aware of their responsibilities.
- Proactively prepare health and safety interventions and develop internal policy.
- Develop, implement and review safe work practices and procedures for all hazardous tasks.
- Provide personal protective equipment, instruction in its use, maintenance and limitations. Ensuring a register of deployed equipment is continuously maintained and reviewed.
- Ensure all staff are aware of fire, evacuation and disaster procedures and coordinate regular training interventions in fire and emergency procedures and manual handling training, in collaboration with HR.
- Ensure full and accurate health and safety training records are maintained.
- Record incidents and accidents and produce statistics for managers.
- Maintain an up to date working knowledge of relevant Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Environment legislation and any developments that affect the business.
- Carry out and co-ordinate accident / incident investigations, reporting RIDDOR to the HSE when required.
- Ensure equipment is installed safely.
- Manage and organise the safe disposal of hazardous substances.
- Produce management reports, newsletters and bulletins.
- Advise the business on a range of specialist topics, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery etc.
- Lead in-house training with managers and employees about environment, health and safety issues and risks including H&S Toolbox Talks.
**The Successful Applicant**
- Over 3 years in a Health & Safety Officer/Management position preferred
- Must have a relevant IOSH or NEBOSH qualification or working towards.
- Strong manufacturing background and experience with ISO 9001.
- Understanding of 14001/45001
- Preferred experience in FMCG or chemical manufacturing environment, will consider other manufacturing experience
- A team player with good interpersonal skills, willing to be flexible and engage with shop floor activities.
- Able to create structure to support effective and efficient company processes
