**Your role**:
It’s a really exciting time to join our Public Health Team here at Wigan Council.
Wigan Council is a high performing, nationally recognised, council which has a strong track record of delivery.
Through our New Era Progress with Unity work, our priority is to further transform the health and well-being of our population and improve health, care, wellness and opportunities across the borough via a collaborative insightful approach.
Our Health and Wellbeing Board is a committed place partnership and has recently refreshed our vision for improving health which is at the heart of the Council and our key partners approach to addressing social, economic and health inequalities.
In this new fixed term role (2 years) at Wigan Council, supported by a partnership with the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) based at Newcastle University, you will thrive on innovation and delivering outcomes that make a tangible difference to people’s lives. You will enjoy bringing forward opportunities for change, promoting innovative thinking based on data analysis and research that informs evidence-based decision making, best practice and transparency.

The post will play a key role in enabling an increase in research capacity and capability across the local authority to generate data and evidence that promotes local insight to inform public service transformation that addresses social and health inequalities.

Wigan Council has been voted ‘Overall Council of the Year’ at the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Awards. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.
The Progress with Unity plan is a place movement for change for the next decade, bringing a new era for Wigan Borough. It draws on the strengths of our individual organisations, recognising that together we can achieve much more for our communities by delivering on our 2 place missions; create fair opportunities for all children, families, residents and businesses and make our towns and neighbourhoods flourish for those who live and work in them.
You will receive support, mentoring and coaching to actively engage in CPD activities relevant to your role - this will be either or both research and practitioner-based learning and training opportunities (including UK Public Health Practitioner Registration) if appropriate.
Here at Wigan, we are proud to support flexible working patterns, when the service can accommodate this. We also take a blended approach to where we work, depending on the work we do. This may include working from home, the office, or the community. We like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of exclusive rewards and benefits
