**The Role**:
The University of Portsmouth is seeking to appoint an experienced medic (either Consultant or GP), who is passionate about medical education and mental health, to the role of Mental Health Lead. The postholder will be one of the Lead roles of a major new strategic partnership with Kings College London (KCL) to deliver a graduate entry medical education (GEM) programme with the aim of the University of Portsmouth setting up its own Medical School in the future. This will be anchored within/reflective of and intended to help address the health and wellbeing needs of the Portsmouth, South East Hampshire and the Isle of Wight health and care system.
The role of Mental Health Lead is pivotal in sustaining and improving a collaborative approach between the NHS and healthcare professionals in the delivery of undergraduate education. The primary purpose of this role is to ensure the smooth running of placements within Mental Health Services and contribute to the development, expansion and quality management of the mental health curriculum. It is important that the postholder has a good relationship with the mental health services in the area to ensure engagement.
The postholder’s principal responsibility will be to coordinate the Longitudinal Mental Health block in GEM Year 2 (including the tutorial programme, clinical placements and associate teaching) and the Mental Health block in GEM Year 3. They will also be responsible for allocating and supporting Educational Supervisors from the Mental Health team for GEM Year 2 and for promoting engagement with the various project components of the programme.
**Other Requirements**
NHS employees will need to seek approval from their line manager to undertake this role as University hours will be incorporated into the role holder’s clinical work plan.
The interview date is planned for 09 April 2025.
