General Practice Assistant

At Fareham & Portchester PCN we have an excellent opportunity for 2 dynamic and forward-thinking people to join 2 of our 4 GP Practices. Centre Practice in Fareham and Westlands Medical Cente in Portchester. This will involve working closely with the GPs and other healthcare professionals in practice.

This will be for a 2-year fixed term contract with likely extension.

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week. Part-time hours are also considered.

General Practice Assistants typically undertake at least six months of on-the-job training which leads to the award of a certificate. You will be trained and supervised by GPs within the practice and your learning will be assessed by those GPs. To complete your learning, General Practice Assistants must demonstrate their skills in five key areas, including basic clinical duties, administration, communication, and record keeping. You must have an understanding of patient center care.

**Responsibilities and Duties**

Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions. Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc.

Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes

Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients

Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the GP appointment.

Dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs & phlebotomy

Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc

Explaining treatment procedures to patients

Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting an on call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s)

Support the GP with immunisations/wound car

Fareham & Portchester PCN (FPPCN) Comprises 4 practices. This is Fareham Centre Practice, Gudgeheath Lane Surgery, Westlands Medical Centre, and Portchester Practice. We have a patient population of approximately 44,500 with a diverse workforce of Paramedics, Nurses, ANP, FCP Physio's, Social Prescribers and a Team of 2 Clinical Pharmacists and 2 Pharmacy Technicians. These are supported by the management and administration team. We also pride ourselves on the excellent in-house supervision program we have been developing over the past 2 years to ensure maximum support and guidance from the GPs working alongside you.

**Essential criteria**

Essential Criteria GCSE Grade 9-4 (C-A ) Experience in Primary or Secondary Care Setting Applicants must commit to the training pathway and supervision program Hold a full UK driving licence

Desirable criteria Self Starter and willingness to learn Applicants must already be demonstrating competent patient care within their employment Ability to loan work as well as part of a team Organisational Skills

**Salary**: From £23,949.00 per year
