SENIOR DESIGN TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN
£17,908 - £23,166
35 hours per week / term time only + 1 week (40 weeks per year)
ROLE PURPOSE
To support teaching staff in the development and education of children including the provision of specialist technical skills and knowledge at an advanced level across a range of disciplines.
To take management responsibilities for other technicians.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
SENIOR TECHNICIAN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Use specialist technical skills to meet the educational needs of learners
- Contribute to the assessment of the learners' practical needs within the specialist area
- Lead for the whole school in a designated technical area and share expertise and skills with others
TECHNICIAN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare equipment and resources for teaching and learning
- Clear and tidy equipment after lessons and examinations and store safely
- Clean and maintain teaching and learning resources.
- Provide specific support in lessons when requested
- Routine maintenance and simple repair of equipment
- Annual health and safety checks by outside agencies
- Prepare and review risk assessments annually for all equipment and teaching areas
- Maintenance of stock levels
- Maintenance of inventories and annual review
- Assistance with and/or support of open evenings, exhibitions etc including display work
- Train in and undertake Portable Appliance Testing
MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
- In addition to the duties normally expected of a level 3 technician, this role will encompass the day-to-day management of technicians within the department
- Contribute to the development and implementation of policies relating to Technicians.
- Line-manage individuals and teams of technical staff including responsibility for staff development
- Be involved in the process for the recruitment of technicians
- In consultation with appropriate Heads of Department, assist in the development and monitoring of relevant plans and procedures to support the implementation of the curriculum and school targets
- Manage the use of resources to meet the needs of the academy:
Develop and monitor the relevant budget and liaise with the responsible officer as appropriate
- Undertake the deployment of technical staff in line with academy policy
- Ensure physical resources are managed to best value and liaise with relevant personnel.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of students at all times in line with safeguarding guidance and policy
- Ensure compliance of data usage and practices with the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Academy's Data Protection Policy in all areas of responsibility
- Maintain an appropriate working environment in accordance with the Academy's Health and Safety policy and procedures
- Uphold the Academy Equality policy and Safer Recruitment policy
- Adhere to the ethos of the Academy by promoting the school values, vision and aims and setting an example of personal integrity and professionalism
- Treat all users of the school with courtesy and consideration and present a positive personal image which will contribute to a welcoming school environment
- Attend line management, departmental and whole school meetings and act as a supportive, enthusiastic member of the organisation
- Participate in CPD and training sessions as directed
- Carry out such duties as may reasonably be deemed commensurate with the grade or remit of the post by the JOB TITLE OF SENIOR MANAGER or Head Teacher
