Liverpool, United Kingdom University of Liverpool Full time

Applications are invited for highly motivated researchers to begin their independent career as a Lecturer/Tenure Track Fellow in the Department of Eye and Vision Science, University of Liverpool. Here you will join a highly collegiate network of researchers including those focused on wound repair and scarring, inherited disorders and RNA therapeutics, stem cell biology, tissue engineering and replacement, ocular infection, ocular bioengineering, artificial intelligence and image analysis, as well as clinical researchers. Our clinical colleagues provide a rich resource in terms of patient access, samples and a platform for onward translational development. We also have regular access to human donor tissue via a locally run research eye bank including a biobank of patient tissues. You will be based within the Institute of Life Course and Medical Sciences, which brings further collaborative opportunities with researchers focused on ageing science, molecular, genetic and epigenetic mechanisms of disease, and the role, composition and treatments using extracellular vesicles among many others.- We seek applicants whose research focus lies within the broad area of inflammation as applied to ocular health and disease. It is anticipated that your research focus will be understanding the reasons why this occurs and how it is manifested, identifying new diagnostic or prognostic methods and/or development of molecular interventions to treat ocular inflammation. To achieve this, you will bring a strong track record of publications in these areas, skills in inflammation and immunology as it relates to ophthalmology and a desire to work collegially with researchers within the department and institute as well as with clinical researchers to build an effective research team that is capable to attracting external funding. We are particularly interested in building stronger links with our clinical colleagues in the Department of Women¿s and Children¿s Health with expertise in paediatric autoimmune/inflammatory diseases. You will work closely with our clinical colleagues in St Paul¿s Eye Unit & Alder Hey Children¿s NHS Foundation Trust to address the ocular diseases of their patients. In particular, they will work with our clinical academics working in uveitis nationally and globally.- You will establish your research team within the William Henry Duncan Building, a custom-built research building with fully equipped communal laboratory space including dedicated cell and molecular biology equipment and space.- Working for the University you will benefit from a competitive pay structure and generous terms and conditions of employment, alongside mechanisms for progression and reward. We aim to provide our staff with a positive work life balance and have a range of schemes in place to support this that far exceed statutory baselines. This includes a suite of family friendly policies; provision for paid special leave for compassionate, domestic or other emergency reasons; provision for paid time off to undertake voluntary work and opportunities to purchase annual leave. There are several competitive pension schemes on offer in order to suit colleagues' circumstances and eligibility. Your continued professional development is as important to us as it is to you. We demonstrate this through our investment in your CPD activity and also have an annual review process to consider cases for promotion.
