The Horserace Betting Levy Board is a unique government organisation that sits between the horseracing and betting industries and plays a critical role in collecting and distributing an annual levy for the improvement of horseracing; breeds of horse; andveterinary science and education.
We have a newly created opportunity for a Board Secretary and Compliance Officer to join our small, friendly team. Reporting to the Head of Governance & Digital, you will provide effective and efficient management for the operation of the Board and its formalcommittees alongside managing compliance processes for data and records management within HBLB. This is an exciting opportunity to use your skills whilst playing a central role at the heart of a unique organisation.
The role will involve:
- **Board and Committees**: providing all necessary services to ensure good management of the Board and its supporting committees including liaising with Board members and following up on agreed actions
- **Compliance and governance**:(in support of the Head of Governance and Digital): managing information internally and supporting others to do the same; keeping appropriate corporate records; maintaining publication of appropriate informationto the public; and other good governance processes to ensure HBLB’s compliance with relevant requirements.
- **Central office administration**:dealing with incoming communication appropriately; and assisting with the management and provision of office services.
- **Working Environment**:keeping staff proactively informed and engaged through a planned approach to internal communications.
You will need:
- Previous experience of working with Boards and committees and dealing personally with Board members. A relevant qualification in the Board Secretary professional field would be preferred.
- Understanding of public sector or arm’s length public bodies.
- Previous experience managing information under the Freedom of Information Act and the Data Protection Act.
- Excellent administrative and organisational skills.
- Good technology skills, particularly MS Office (Word, Excel), Office 365 and video conferencing.
- A hands-on approach to a varied role, building strong working relationships as an important part of a small team.
