**Salary**: £11.44 per hour

Auckland Surgery is looking to recruit a GP Prescribing Clerk/Receptionist for up to 30 hours per week + Saturday mornings on a 1 in 6 rota. Previous experience in a GP surgery or customer service role is an advantage, but full training will be given.

**Job Summary**
- As the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and telephone callers, to provide a friendly, helpful and efficient service
- Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the Practice, including the provision of admin support to clinical and other members of the Practice team
- Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional
- Work as an effective part of the practice team

**Main Responsibilities**

The duties and responsibilities for this position may include any or all of the following list. Duties may be varied from time to time under the direction of the Assistant Practice Manager or Practice Manager, depending upon current and evolving practice workload and staffing levels.

**Prescription Duties**:
Deal with requests for repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice guidelines. Produce prescriptions for a GP to sign in an acceptable time frame. Ensure all prescriptions are processed and are ready within 48 hours.

**Reception Duties**:

- To greet and deal with patients on reception and on the telephone in a friendly and courteous manner
- Make, change, cancel patient appointments whether on the telephone, in person or via the website or app
- Respond to all queries and where necessary direct to the appropriate person
- Answer the telephone and make calls in a polite manner
- Take messages and requests for home visits and record
- Explain procedure for registration at the practice to new and temporary patients and put them on the clinical system
- Advise and sign up patients to the practice online access
- Filing and retrieving of notes, letters and results
- Sort & cull new notes in date order
- Photocopying, and scanning
- Advise patients of relevant charge for any private service, accept payment and issue receipt
- Assist with call and recall of patients as part of the Quality and Outcomes Framework, Enhanced Services and medication monitoring
- Use Accurx to contact patients as required
- Deal with post as directed
- Check practice website dashboard and deal with correspondence as appropriate
- Complete DOCMAN and EMIS tasks as requested
- Enter patient information on computer system as required
- Handle samples, direct to the appropriate person, record and ensure ready for courier collection
- Assist clinical staff as requested
- Chase up results, appointments, reports etc
- Assist with the administration side of the practice as requested
- Assist GPs with referrals and appointments and deal with patient queries

**General**
- Open up premises when first to arrive, de-activate the alarm and make all necessary preparations to receive patients
- When last to leave ensure that the building is secured, electrical equipment has been turned off, internal lights are off and the alarm activated
- At the end of the day load or unload the dishwasher and ensure cups available for the next day
- Ensure the waiting room and reception areas are kept tidy and free from potential hazards
- Understand and strictly adhere to the Practice’s policy of patient confidentiality
- Assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security in accordance with the Practices’ Health and Safety policy
- Undertake all necessary training
- Participate in annual performance review/appraisal
- Attend staff meetings
- Read and adhere to all the Practice’s policies and protocols in the Staff Handbook
