The Role
As a Crane Controller, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe system of work is in place whilst machines are operating. You will help maintain exclusion zones around plant to enable them to carry out work safely, following all relevant codes of practice and sentinel rules.
Key responsibilities include:
Adhering to all site H&S standards and codes of practice
Ensuring all sentinel safety rules and regulations are being adhered to
Ensuring the correct PPE is always worn and used including correct sponsorship worn
Attending site white board meetings as and when required
Assisting the POS Manager by undertaking site visits for OTP creation when required
Checking that duplex communications work before undertaking any work and are in good order throughout the shift
Checking all plant and attachment certification is in date and confirm with operator it’s in good working order
Completing all relevant paperwork before commencing with works
Briefing the operator on the content of the lift plan and make sure it is followed correctly
Reporting any on site issues to the POS Planner/ON Call manager
Checking and confirm the worksite possession arrangements are in place and suitable
Checking and confirming any S&C is set correct before the machine travels over it and ensure Points safety equipment is utilised within the worksite
Providing guidance, support and technical advice to the customer and colleagues (where appropriate) ensuring that needs are met
Returning OTP and Lift plans to the Senior POS planner for audit purposes
Any other responsibilities as requested by the line manager
Personal Track Safety certification
Experience of working in the rail industry
COSS certification for at least 2 years
To be slinger certified (sentinel)
Excellent attention to detail
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Experience of adhering to H&S regulations, codes of practice (NWR) and sentinel rules
MC-CC competence required
