We have an exciting opportunity within the Data quality team for an Information Officer (Data Quality). This position would suit a member of staff who is looking to progress in the Data quality area. NHS Wales relies on high quality data and information in order deliver safe and efficient patient care, to effectively plan new healthcare services, manage the performance of Welsh NHS Local Health Boards and Trusts and understand the cost of patient care delivered across Wales.
DHCW plays a central role in the design, development and implementation of national information standards in order to ensure the collection and reporting of high quality information in support of ongoing improvements in patient care in Wales.
We are looking for an organised, methodical individual with an eye for detail and an understanding of data quality.
C ommunicate with a large number of people at varying levels both within their internal and external working environment. This will range from information staff within NHS Wales organisations, to Welsh Government staff. The post holder is required to provide detailed information on complex operational issues relating to the compliance with mandated information standards to the Welsh Information Standards Board (WISB).
Degree level or equivalent level of experience with a commitment to continued professional development. Experience of developing and implementing new information standards and knowledge of what is required to ensure the information collected is of high quality. Understanding of what barriers need to be overcome to ensure robust information standards are implemented.
Role will involve assessing highly complex data and exploring all the components involved which may impact the quality of these data. Investigate the causes of poor data quality and work with the Lead Specialist (Data Quality) and other relevant roles/individuals on how these data can be improved.
Plans the development of concurrent new information standards, prioritising appropriately. This will include negotiation with ‘sponsors’ and ‘developers ’, over the presentation of submissions to WISB and ensure the ‘sponsor’ is aware of the Information Standards Assurance process to be followed.

Responsible for implementing processes, tools and documentation to improve information quality. The post holder is expected to suggest improvements to the processes across NHS Wales and the Welsh Government to consider. These changes may impact organisations other than the post holders own. Responsible for ensuring the work they undertake complies with Velindre NHS Trust policies.
Ensure personal equipment adheres to Health & Safety regulations.
Responsible for explaining day-to-day working processes to new or less experienced employees.
As required, the post holder will be required to undertake detailed research into specific data quality and data definitional initiatives, making proposals and recommendations via formal reports for review and consideration by senior NHS staff within DHCW, Welsh Government. This will require a significant amount of highly detailed research into the operational practices and behaviours of NHS Wales organisations and other UK and international NHS organisations and external agencies. Keep abreast of current information standards and developments relating to health care in NHS Wales and other Home Countries. A key requirement of the post will be to measure the impact of introducing new information requirements to improve information quality, through undertaking an impact assessment with the appropriate NHS organisations.
