Help us make a difference as **Assistant Site Supervisor** at Biffa's household waste recycling centre (HWRC).

**A quick look at the role.**

You will assist in the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of the Worthing site, together with assistance to general public visiting the site.

Ensure that waste brought onto the site is segregated as much as possible for recycling. At all times adhering to Company policies and procedures including H&S, environmental and operational requirements.

To step up as Supervisor when required:

- To ensure the efficient day to day operation of the Household Waste Recycling Site, administration system and the management of the site/yard/machine operatives and health and safety practices.
- Arranging for the waste and recyclables to be correctly stored and removed from site as required, operating to Viridor's policies and procedures.
- Ensuring that the site is operated to all applicable licences and consents.
- Interfacing with site users, Members of the Public, Visitors, Contractors and all others

- Segregation of waste to maximise the amounts that can be recycled.
- Assist members of the public and other site users to deposit and segregate their waste.
- Direct traffic to provide safe and efficient use of the centre.
- Educate site users in the safe and effective use of the civic amenity site.
- Perform basic maintenance and housekeeping duties to site equipment and facilities.
- Control site traffic and assist site users to ensure safe and efficient site use.
- Deal with unauthorised personnel illegally using the centre, i.e. through disturbing refuse, Stealing, or carrying out unauthorised tipping.
- Maintain centre records as necessary to comply with licence, legislative and company requirements.
- Monitor waste to determine waste type and quantity, to ensure conformity to centre licence. Ensure segregation and security of hazardous and special waste types to provide safe and efficient centre use.
- Duties of Supervisor role when required:

- To ensure that the site is operated effectively and to provide a safe environment for all site users and employees.
- Operating site administration systems. Completing all paperwork relating to the site staff, and all outgoing waste, compiling and reporting of all contaminated loads
- Management and motivation of site operatives to ensure that a high quality service and welcoming environment is provided to all site users.
- To organise the removal of waste in accordance with management instructions and in compliance with the Environmental Permit.
- Maximising levels of recycling compatible with safe systems of work; maintaining true and accurate records of materials recycled.
- To safely and competently operate mobile plant and equipment to stockpile and compact waste as necessary to provide continual availability of the HWRS.

- Basic knowledge of construction works and site maintenance e.g. minor repairs to sites.
- Understanding of the methods and reasons for segregating waste for recycling.
- Associated administration systems
