**Job summary**:
The UK Hydrographic Office’s Submarine Operations and Support (SOS) Team is recruiting. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a highly dynamic, operationally focused team that supports some of the UK’s most important and strategic defence operations. This will involve building a high level of direct engagement with the end user that affords a real window into a world that few outside serving armed forces personnel ever get to see.

The SOS Team is made up of Geospatial Specialists of varying levels of expertise, who curate and deliver services and products for defence and defence customers. This, in short, means presenting information in a format that enables defence customers to make operational, navigational and situational awareness decisions. These customers rely on the products SOS develop in the very real maritime defence domain.

The Technical Lead role is responsible for providing high level technical input and leadership to the delivery of a number of products for the Defence community along with the development of new digital products in answer to emerging customer requirements.

**This post is based in Taunton, Somerset, so you’ll need to live within a commutable distance. There will also be a requirement to travel nationally/internationally.**

**This job is reserved for UK nationals only. Developed Vetting (DV) clearance is a pre-requisite.**

**Job description**:

- The purpose of the role is, in conjunction with the Submarine Operations and Support Team Manager, to develop and drive the Team to deliver quality output to time, cost and specification.**Person specification**:
**Responsibilities**:
The Technical lead will:

- Provide technical leadership and domain experience to the Submarine Operations and Support (SOS) Team in order to achieve the team’s objectives.
- Work with managers and Subject Matter Experts to define the depth and breadth of technical knowledge and skills required to deliver current and future products and services. Provide input into training and competency frameworks.
- Owner of SOS Quality documentation and production processes.
- Provide a leadership focus for SOS collaboration and partnering with MOD customers, industry and international partners. Represent UKHO and wider UK defence in international forums relating to SOS programmes of work.
- Act as primary UKHO contact for SOS related work programmes. Lead on engagement with RN customers to ensure their requirements are understood and expectations met.
- Act as Secretary to the Deterrent Surveys Working Group (DSWG), providing deterrent programme status reports and survey analysis expertise to the working group.
- Provide technical leadership and expert advice on projects for SOS systems, processes and products. This will include acting as Product Owner for systems development, working with a software development team.
- Identify additional and future requirements to support UK defence activities where UKHO can provide data, products and services to improve operational effectiveness or better support emerging technologies and platforms.
- Co-ordinate wider UKHO support against some of the work programmes especially when they relate to wider government requirements
