Corporate Apprentice

**About The Service** You will earn £19,100 per annum pro rata in this Apprentice role as we are Voluntary Living Wage Employer.**

Our Insurance & Risk Team is looking to employ a Corporate Apprentice (Level 3) based at County Hall (CF10 4UW) to contribute to our Service helping us to deliver a broad range of Insurance and Risk services to external claimants and internal stakeholders.

**About the job**
In this Corporate Apprentice (Level 3) role, you will gain an insight of roles and responsibilities of a Local Authority Insurance Team. There are three areas which you will gain knowledge of are:
Technical Insurance Responsibilities
- A knowledge and understanding of the Council’s insurance policies
- Assist with day-to-day technical insurance queries from internal stakeholders
- Creating relationships with the Council’s Insurers and Brokers to aid query referrals
- Assist with collating information for annual insurance renewals and tenders
- Gain an understanding of risk management to identify trends to reduce claims costs
- Analysing and interpreting claims data to produce reports for service areas
- Assisting with collating responses to risk improvement surveys carried out by insurers on key properties

Claims Handling
- Gain knowledge and understanding of Local Authority liabilities, and understanding of how insurance claims are handled in line with case law
- Assist with new claims notifications and recording them on the claims management system (LACHS)
- Handle a small portfolio of public liability claims from notification through to settlement including investigating and deciding legal liability, accurately assessing quantum and negotiating competitive settlements on in-house handled claims made by third parties
- Handle a small portfolio of property and motor claims from notification through to settlement by communicating with internal stakeholders
- Assisting with insurer liability investigations and gathering information from internal departments
- Detecting fraudulent claims
- Assisting with recoveries where Council property or vehicles have been damage by third parties

Corporate Risk Management
- Gain an insight into the Corporate Risk Management Policy and Strategy and how it is applied in Corporate, Directorate and Team risk registers
- An understanding of the Council’s risk escalation process
- Liaising with Risk Champions across the Council to assist with collating quarterly updates for reporting

Full training will be provided and our Team will help and encourage you to develop in the role and you will be encouraged to take on a variety of duties. You will receive supervision and on the job training and will have a named mentor to support you to deliver an efficient and effective service in a positive, customer-focused manner. This role includes a Welsh Government Apprenticeship Framework Qualification in Providing Financial Services - General Insurance Pathway at Level 3* which you will be expected to complete in the role.

Many of our teams have moved to online and homeworking working and you will be encouraged to develop the skills to support this. Where homeworking is required, you will be given the necessary equipment however, you will need to arrange your own internet connectivity (some support may be available to help with this).

This post is temporary for 18 months if worked full time, or longer if worked part time. Most roles are based on a 37 hour week although many roles can be worked on a part time basis and at least 16 hours per week for apprentice roles.
