This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join a pivotal team that plays a key role in health and safety matters across RAF Northolt. RAF Northolt is a diverse RAF Station used by both military and civilian aircraft, playing an important royal role with the 32 (The Royal) Squadron and 63 Squadron RAF Regiment (King’s Colour Squadron). 2,000 service personnel, civil servants, and contractors work at RAF Northolt.
Working in a dynamic environment, the RAF Northolt Environmental Protection Officer sits within the Station’s Safety and Assurance team, who are responsible for providing professional health, safety and environmental protection (HS&EP) advice, training, and support to Whole Force personnel across RAF Northolt. This role is integral to the team’s function, providing advice on organisational environmental protection policies and promoting best practice across the organisation to support effective risk management and assurance.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
**Job description**:
On a day-to-day basis the Environmental Protection Officer will work in a busy environment, supporting with the implementation of the local HS&EP Management System. They will regularly engage with a wide range of stakeholders, both within the HS&EP field and wider teams across RAF Northolt, to provide sound advice and to ensure compliance with local and organisational policies and standards.
- Provide senior management and other relevant stakeholders with professional advice on environmental protection (EP) to enable organisational EP objectives to be met and to provide guidance on statutory and mandatory requirements.
- Interpret legislation and organisational policy to support drafting local HS&EP strategies, directives, procedures and team plans.
- Provide appropriate and timely briefings (written & verbal) to senior managers and stakeholders as required. Represent the Safety and Assurance team at local HS&EP committees, and internal and external stakeholder meetings, to provide guidance and information regarding current issues and initiatives.
- Promote a positive HS&EP culture across the Station by supporting initiatives and regularly engaging with wider Station personnel and relevant stakeholders to share ideas and identify areas of good practice.
- Support the Safety Team HS&EP audit & assurance programme.
- Support the production of quarterly and annual performance reports, highlighting areas of potential weakness to the Station SHEA for consideration.
- Contribute to the HS&EP Team training programme by developing and delivering awareness briefs and toolbox talks.

**Person specification**:
This role is suited to someone who has an interest in gaining knowledge and experience of wider environmental protection management disciplines, including pollution prevention, waste management, noise and nuisance, protected species and habitats, and conservation and heritage. They will have strong attention-to-detail skills, with a meticulous approach when reviewing policies, conducting audits and ensuring accuracy in environmental-related data and reports.

- NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate, or full suite of RAF Halton EP courses.
