Diversional Activity Worker - Band 3 - Part time - 22.5 hours per week (Work weekends with additional day in week)
Ward 5 is a specialist Neuropsychiatric Ward within Harplands Hospital providing assessment and care to service users with a range of diagnosis such as Huntington’s Disease, acquired brain injury & early on set dementia.
They will work alongside this team in supporting service users in accessing and engaging in a range of individualised therapeutic activities, to provide stimulation and structure; to assist in cognitive recovery and rehabilitation and maintain/enhance well-being
Interviewees will be asked to discuss how they would plan a group activity, giving the aim and objectives for the activity, including risk assessment and evaluation. The means of describing / presenting this will be optional.
The post holder will primarily work at weekends and another agreed day to ensure we provide the 7 day service.

Treat each patient as an individual respecting both privacy and dignity and contribute to high standards of quality and support.
Form professional relationships with patients to enable them to achieve the outcomes required within the care plan in a way that respects their views, autonomy and culture.
Contribute to the assessment of individual patient needs as requested and directed by the responsible multi-disciplinary team professional.
Support and implement individual care plans as devised by qualified members of the multi-disciplinary team. To support and assist in the delivery of Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Complementary Therapy activities where relevant and appropriate to the overall plan ensuring an holistic approach.
Take a lead role in supporting patients to participate in appropriate person centred therapeutic activities including undertaking the role of escorting patients in a full range of ward based and where relevant community based activities as agreed / planned by the multi-disciplinary care team or named nurse.

The post holder will support clients in accessing and engaging in a range of therapeutic activities and leisure pursuits, as assessed and planned by qualified members of the multi-disciplinary team.
Key Duties/Responsibilities
To perform a range of supporting administrative tasks where required.
To report all complaints and untoward occurrences to a qualified nurse.
Contribute to effective communication with patients (including non-verbal communication methods), their relatives, friends, staff and other professionals to ensure the continuing of quality and safety in the provision of care.
Contribute to relevant aspects of person centred care planning/ assessment and treatment process with the patient, their relatives, named nurse and members of the multi-disciplinary team. Attend patient review meetings as requested.
Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Trust policy.
Maintain the health, safety and welfare of patients, self and others according to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and in accordance with individual care plans and where relevant with the 1983 mental Health Act.
Ensure accurate recording keeping and effective communication (verbal and written) with all members of the team.
Support qualified team members to facilitate the admission and discharge of patients to and from the Service.
The post holder will be required to work regularly without the presence of a qualified nurse. A qualified nurse will be available and contactable for support and advice within
Finance
Assist qualified nursing staff in maintaining effective systems for control of financial systems within the service and in line with Trust policies.
Personnel and Training.
To work within Trust Policies and Procedures.
To participate in performance appraisal with line manager and agree personal development plans in line with the service line business plan, to ensure regular support and feedback are received and ongoing development needs are met.
Attend mandatory training and any other relevant training to individual area/role.
