**About Arup**:
We are an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants, and technical specialists offering a broad range of professional services. Through our work, we make a positive difference in the world. Arup is one of the leading engineering and advisory firms. Our unique ownership structure allows us to invest our time and energy in the interests of our staff rather than external shareholders, making for an exciting and enjoyable environment to work in. We have a world-class, innovative, and diverse team, that takes the lead on some of the UK’s most dynamic projects.
**The Opportunity**:
The main focus of Arup’s Water team in Sheffield is _stormwater._ We advise our clients on the risk of flooding at a strategic (city or region-wide) or site scale. We model the movement of water and the risks associated with flooding, using integrated hydraulic models. We plan and design nature-based solutions to manage stormwater and provide wider benefits in the built and rural environment. This team has enjoyed strong organic growth, however, the need for practical and rigorously driven solutions continues to rise.
To maintain our high standards and support our future vision, we need an experienced, collaborative, dynamic, and engaging professional to help deliver hydraulic modelling projects. Confident working with InfoWorks ICM and perhaps other hydraulic modelling packages, you will be the technical lead on projects, collaborating, supporting, and mentoring colleagues in your team. Ideally, you will have experience of incorporating river models into ICM and perhaps you will have carried out water quality modelling studies. You will understand the importance of model QA and be able to review the work of others. You might also be digital-savvy and have a keen interest in using digital tools to solve complex problems or eliminate repetitive tasks. You will have opportunities to help us with other aspects of our stormwater project work, but this role is for someone who enjoys the challenge of creating and refining hydraulic models. Your educational background could be as an engineer, a scientist, or in a related discipline. We appreciate the value of diversity of education and experience because it allows us to bring new perspectives and alternative solutions.
Reporting to the Water Team Leader in Sheffield, you will lead and/or review stormwater and fluvial hydraulic modelling projects which will include integrated modelling approaches. You may also be able to help us with water quality modelling and the building of complex 2D model surfaces.
**Other daily duties include**:
- Working as part of a team to provide hands-on input to a variety of projects.
- Mentoring and training less-experienced team members; supporting the team and giving constructive feedback to individuals, to help the team as a whole to develop in experience.
- Use of technical analysis and design software packages such as Experience of other hydraulic modelling packages, which might include MicroDrainage, HECRAS 2D, Flood Modeller Pro, TUFLOW, MIKE and other urban drainage or river modelling products. Producing technical reports to convey complex concepts - e.g., Strategic Flood Risk Assessments.
**Requirements**:
- Chartered with ICE, CIWEM or other recognised industry body.
- Undergraduate or post-graduate degree in an associated engineering, STEM, mathematics or science degree
- We appreciate and value those who have come directly from an apprentice route and as such, those who have completed a hydraulic modeling apprenticeship are very welcome to apply.
**Rewards and Benefits**
We offer a competitive salary at all levels, and one of the best benefits packages in our sector.
Core benefits include cover under the UK Healthcare Plan (private medical insurance), Life Assurance, Accident Insurance, and Income Protection (long term disability) cover. Core benefits are funded by us and made available to all permanent staff in order to support and safeguard your financial, physical, and mental wellbeing. You will also have access to Choice Benefits to help with your work/life balance and financial security.
In addition, all permanent employees are eligible for the Global Profit Share scheme. Subject to scheme rules employees can receive two Profit Share payments per year, which are dependent on the firm’s financial performance.
Different people, shared values.
At Arup, we believe when talented people collaborate, great things are possible. Arup hires people with proven skills and open minds. We are taking deliberate action to create an inclusive culture that is grounded in our purpose to shape a better world.
At Arup, we appreciate that everyone’s circumstances are different and having the freedom to flex the way we work is essential to our wellbeing. If flexibility matters to you let us know when you apply, and we will discuss how this could work in your role.
