This is a hands-on role requiring strong leadership, solid timber knowledge, and the confidence to make informed decisions about stock selection and usage. The Team Leader will need to ensure that sawyers follow instructions and make the best use of the timber provided, even when the material is challenging to work with.

You will oversee a small team (4 in the sawmill and 1 in the picking & packing department) and play a crucial part in ensuring our sawmill runs smoothly and profitably.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Manage and coordinate the supply of timber from stock to the sawmill.
- Make informed decisions on timber selection based on quality, usability, and efficiency.
- Supervise and support sawmill and stock-handling staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Maintain authority and clear communication with sawyers regarding stock use and cutting priorities.
- Operate forklifts to move timber between storage areas and the sawmill (training can be provided).
- Monitor stock levels and communicate with management regarding timber availability and requirements.
- Support the picking and packing team as required to meet production and customer needs.
- Report performance, issues, and progress to mid-management regularly.
- Contribute to process improvements and efficiency initiatives

**Skills & Experience - essential**:

- Proven experience in the timber industry (preferably oak).
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Good understanding of timber types, grades, and cutting requirements.
- Confident decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
- Forklift operation experience (or willingness to be trained).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong focus on quality, efficiency, and safety.

**Skills & Experience - Desirable**:

- Previous experience in a sawmill, timber yard, or related environment.
- Knowledge of sawmill machinery and workflow processes.
- Ability to read cutting lists and interpret production requirements.

**Personal Attributes**
- Practical and hands-on approach.
- Respected team player who can also command authority when needed.
- Reliable, organised, and able to prioritise under pressure.
- Keen to learn and develop within the role.
- Takes pride in maintaining high standards and contributing to company success.

**What We Offer**
- A role with real responsibility and impact
- Supportive, family-run business culture
- Opportunities for development and progression
- Competitive salary (£29,000 - £33,250 per annum).
- Full training and ongoing development opportunities.
- Opportunity to play a key role in a growing, respected timber business.
- Varied, satisfying work in a growing company
- Additional benefits include company pension and profit sharing
- Holiday: 20 days holiday plus bank holidays, with holiday bonus scheme based on years of service

- **R**eliability - delivering on promises
- **E**xpertise - experts in Oak
