We’re looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join our communications team to support with the delivery of our member and external communications strategy. As a communications officer, you will be responsible for managing a number of internal and external relationships including with our member networks and members to uncover and tell the stories of our members, their work and the role of psychology. You will also be responsible for managing communications to our members ensuring they are engaging and accurate and delivering an outstanding service to our members.

Alongside this you will also contribute to supporting the Media Officer and Communications Manager with the delivery of our media strategy, working to build positive working relationships with journalists and ensure BPS positions and messaging are well represented. You will also be responsible for managing a range of internal and external communication projects across the organisation, providing communications expertise as to planning and delivery of communications to ensure maximum engagement and interaction with new products, services or information sharing.

Key Accountabilities
- To undertake pro-active media liaison for the BPS and its member networks. Contribute to media briefings, major Society documents, guidance, journal articles and statements.
- To respond to enquiries from journalists seeking background, opinions etc. utilising the media database of members and nominated policy leads. The post holder will also work to influence the opinions and attitudes of journalists making enquiries, of influencers, stakeholders and the public.
- To provide professional expertise and contribute to the communications work of the member networks by helping them to organise effective communication of their work to all relevant audiences.
- To provide advice, training and direct support, as required, to other staff and members on communications issues, for example member newsletters, projects and events.
- To assist with media training, as appropriate.
- To monitor the effectiveness of communication activity in order to inform future practice.
- To work with the Communications Manager to formulate budgets for specific projects and identify suppliers of goods and services to support their work.
