Responsible To: Senior Management, Business Directors

**Primary Job Function**:

- The role of the lead practitioner is to work alongside colleagues under the direction of senior management, to guide and advise on practice, ensuring the best possible progress for all the children.
- Develop and lead high quality practice, curriculum and provision for under 2’s, to support all children to reach their full potential, particularly in the prime areas of learning and development.
- Identify children in need of additional support to meet age related outcomes and support the implementation of a range of intervention and support strategies.
**Duties and responsibilities**

Adhering to **ALL** Coronavirus (COVID-19) policies and guidelines, and the policies and procedures of Rainbow Childcare at all times, compliance with the Children Act and Health and Safety legislation and working within the statutory guidelines of Ofsted and The Early Years Foundation Stage.

To take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children in your care and those you come into contact with. Have a sound knowledge and understanding of and uphold safeguarding procedures and strategies ensuring that all children are safeguarded and appropriately supervised at all times.

To undertake child protection training at a level in line with role, and act as a lead for training when organising for others. To identify training needs for all staff.

Through hands on practice under the direction of the senior management, lead the development of high quality child centred play-based provision, developmentally appropriate for children age 0-24 months, which provides a safe nurturing environment to promote children’s emotional stability, independence, autonomy and creativity.

To support the establishment of a culture of reflection through continuous observation, review of strengths and areas for development which leads to actions for improvement.

Act as a role model for other practitioners in developing and maintaining a partnership with parents that values their contributions and involves them in their childs education, including support for the home learning environment and ensuring smooth transitions and continuity for the child and parents.

Keeping developmental records and observations and ensuring other staff within the team are doing so.

Keep up to date with early years best practice, local and national policy, in order to pass on information to colleagues in the setting.

Assisting with revising, updating and reviewing all policies and procedures when necessary or when asked.

Ensuring confidentiality is maintained at ALL times - on and off the premises.

Having key-holder responsibility.

Showing prospective parents and visitors the facilities, and effectively marketing the nursery.

Providing the nursery proprietor and management with verbal feedback when required.

Being responsible for organising staff and working alongside other colleagues as part of the team and ensuring effective communication within the nursery.

Supervising and mentoring staff, trainees and students, and giving feedback to the manager for staff appraisals.

Ensuring that only designated staff administers medication.

Storing, recording and monitoring accident, incident and risk assessment records appropriately and where applicable.

Promoting equal opportunities for all regardless of their religious persuasion, racial origins, gender, disabilities or cultural background.

Ensuring that the preparation of, care, cleanliness and maintenance of the nursery playrooms and equipment are carried out.

Participate in and assist with organising the annual Parents/Carers evening and children’s outings when necessary. Also attend any other events i.e. fundraising or networking event. Attending the staff meetings and training sessions both on and off the nursery premises where applicable.

Any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by the proprietor or managers.
