The Role

The Financial Conduct Authority is a key part of the regulatory structure in financial services, together with the Prudential Regulation Authority and the Bank of England. We work to make financial markets work well for consumers of financial services. This role is in the Competition Division (CD). CD leads the FCA's competition mandate and much of our work is focused on ensuring competition in the markets FCA regulates are working well for consumers, with economists, lawyers, accountants and competition practitioners working together to achieve this. We do this through a range of projects including market studies, competition enforcement cases and research projects relevant to the competition objective.- Scoping problems that require competition investigation, including market failures that may be causing poor outcomes for consumers- Support competition division in the delivery of high quality competition analysis related to wholesale financial markets. Your analysis will be used to make evidence-based decisions and recommendations- Presenting insights and findings impactfully in interesting and clear formats including written, PowerPoint and verbally

You will also get to present your results in interesting ways and to a range of audiences including senior colleagues.

Ultimately you will get to make a difference - your problem solving and the crucial role you will play in competition analyses will help consumers get access to better financial services markets.

Skills/Experience Required

Minimum- Proven technical knowledge and/or experience of financial markets including credit ratings and associated regulation- Experience of drafting reports, presenting recommendations and explaining issues confidently to a variety of internal and external stakeholders

Essential- Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships across teams and divisions- Strong commitment to collaborative working and a flexible approach, including willingness to respond positively to challenge from others- Evidence of rigorous organisation and prioritisation- Ability to assess and analyse complex information and policy issues, making sound judgements/decisions with confidence, supported by evidence, including where only partial information is available, and with the flexibility to change priorities when required- Proven string stakeholder management skills- Excellent communication skills - both in writing and in person, to diverse audiences on technical topics including the ability to:
- Distil complex issues into succinct messages; and- Strong persuading, negotiating and influencing skills and proven track record in stakeholder management

Desirable- Experience of the FCA policy-making and good understanding of the UK policy and legislative processes- In-depth knowledge of credit ratings agency regulation- Professional experience working in industry

The FCA has a national role and is committed to a national footprint. This role can be based in London, Leeds or Edinburgh.

The FCA has London and National Pay ranges to reflect regional differences. The salary for this role will be:
London - up to £75,000
- _salary offered will be based on skills & experience_

National (roles in Leeds & Edinburgh) - up to £70,000
- _salary offered will be based on skills & experience_

The FCA supports hybrid working and you will be expected to work 40% of your time over a month, in our office. We will consider other flexible arrangements, for example part time working, and you can discuss this with the recruiter.
