We are recruiting to an innovative Band 7 Mental Health Practitioner post working between the Paediatric Psychological Medicine Team (In Liaison) and the CAMHS Crisis Team (C-CAT). The post will be based at Addenbrookes hospital within the Paediatric Psychological Medicine (PPM) Team but maintaining essential links with the C-CAT Team. The PPM and C-CAT teams already work closely together to support CYP and families admitted to Addenbrookes Hospital and to liaise with wider regional partners in CAMHS, Children’s Social Care, the third sector, schools and beyond. This post will allow further development of the relationship between C-CAT and the Paediatric wards at Addenbrookes and contribute towards ongoing training and education aimed at improving the care of Children and Young People with Mental Health problems in Acute care settings - a significant focus of NHSE in recent years.
The working pattern will involve 2 x 9am-5pm, and 2 x 9am-9pm shifts a week, with work over 2 weekends in a four-week roster - this will be a fixed pattern that, to some extent, can be negotiated in line with service needs. The shift times reflect the different shift times in each team, but the roles will be integrated within each shift.
Work as part of the Psychological Medicine Service for Children, Young People and their Families, undertaking clinical assessments and supporting the management of Children and Young People attending CUH who have co-morbid mental health problems.
Working closely with Addenbrookes colleagues to ensure the timely assessment of young people presenting in an emergency.
Work closely with the consultant psychiatrist, CAMH colleagues and CUH colleagues to support the development of integrated working between physical and mental health.
Support the training of CUH staff in relation to the mental health needs of children and young people.
Ensure that care is based on the assessment of care needs, and includes a thorough risk assessment and risk management plan.
Use clinical knowledge and expertise to formulate an assessment of relapse risk of the patient after specialist assessment. Liaise with other agencies caring for patients, including community mental health teams and GPs and use collateral information from relatives, GPs and past clinical reports, where available and appropriate, to provide care plans for all patients.
Engage in Psychological Medicine Service educational and training events to fulfil clinical governance requirements and in order to enhance the professional development of acute colleagues, to assist in improving patient care and the quality of the service.
