This role is on the frontline of Shell’s advocacy for a sectoral approach to decarbonisation and will be critical to helping Shell deliver on a key pillar of its energy transition strategy in the UK, a key market for Shell’s global power strategy.

**Where you fit in**

This role sits within the team in UK Corporate Relations which looks after Downstream, Gas and Renewables and Energy Solutions businesses. The CR Adviser for Power & Gas will be one of a team of four people. The individual will need be at the frontline in communicating our business developments and developing and advocating for a policy framework to help the business to deliver.

**What’s the role?**

As Corporate Relations Adviser, we’ll entrust you to:

- Work with team lead to develop and execute credible and effective corporate relations activity for Shell’s gas, power, renewables and energy solutions businesses that reflects business and local priorities, and seeks to improve brand and reputation.
- Maintain intimate knowledge of the business environment relating to the integrated power value chain (i.e., generation, trading and retailing), including relevant UK Government policy, external trends, opportunities and challenges, and provide input to senior leader briefings, including Country Chair and CEO of Shell Energy Retail Limited.
- Establish advocacy strategies, UK policy positions, business narratives & messaging relating to integrated power in support of business objectives, with a particular focus on the retail power market and broader power market reform.
- Lead on policy and advocacy to pave the way for Shell to take forwards industrial decarbonization plans in hubs across the UK, including hydrogen and carbon capture and storage.
- Build effective and coordinated stakeholder relationships including with relevant UK Government officials, MPs, key influencers and industry associations.
- Manage delivery of compelling and impactful communications that advance Shell's position as a credible, commercial and progressive player in the UK energy transition.
- In conjunction with the UK Social Performance Team, and others beyond the UK CR team, ensure operational, project and reputational risks (including non-technical risks) and opportunities are assessed at an early stage, understood by the business, mitigated or leveraged, and integrated into business plans.
- Support the team lead in maintaining effective support for crisis & emergency response / incident management.

**Hard skills**

You should have:

- Understanding of UK Government policy relevant to power and gas markets and experience of developing policy positions and engaging with Government on policy advocacy;
- Experience of delivering external communications & engagement strategies and events;
- Experience in building trust with external stakeholders and a proven track record of managing complex stakeholder relationships with the ability to work effectively in challenging environments;
- The ability to collaborate and influence businesses in pursuit of good outcomes for Shell;
- Excellence writing skills, strong inter-personal skills and a good communicator.
- Crisis and emergency response experience is an advantage.
