**Job summary**:
Passports, Citizenship and Civil Registration (PCCR) is a directorate of the Home Office, which incorporates His Majesty’s Passport Office (HM Passport Office), Citizenship services and the General Register Office for England and Wales. It is a directorate of the Customer Services function in the Home Office. It is a customer focused organisation providing passports for British citizens, passport verification services, citizenship services and overseeing the delivery of civil registration in England and Wales. PCCR employs around 4,000 people across the UK. We aim to deliver uncompromising public protection whilst providing world class customer service via a modern digital business.
The General Register Office (GRO), based in Southport, as part of PCCR, oversees the system of civil registration, including births, stillbirths, adoptions, civil partnerships, marriages and deaths, in England and Wales. It does this in partnership with a range of government departments and the 174 local authorities who provide the service directly to their local community.
HM Passport Office and GRO are undergoing a period of transformation with an aspiration of further improving our customer service by becoming a modern digital business. It is an exciting time to work in a part of government that touches the lives of the vast majority of citizens.
**Job description**:
To carry out the Registrar General's statutory and operational functions, by undertaking a range of administrative tasks in support of GRO Operations.
To work in an operational team within Civil Registration Directorate (CRD) ensuring the delivery of key performance targets as set out in the CRD business plan.
Show flexibility and be able to successfully perform a range of multi-skilled duties.
Have a strong sense of personal ethics and integrity and can demonstrate sound interpersonal, communication and relationship building skills, and thrive working as part of a team.
The full-time working week is 37 hours Monday to Friday.
Should there be a business need, you may be required to work from home.
**Person specification**:
Key Responsibilities to include (but not limited to):
- Producing birth, death and marriage certificates using both manual and computer based systems
- Inputting, verifying and retrieving information from both manual and computer based systems
- Work effectively within a fast paced multi-tasking team based environment to achieve team goals/targets
- To take ownership for one’s own personal attendance, performance and development
- To demonstrate and promote HO Values in all areas of work, and follow HO policies and procedures
Further Information:
- An employee may be required to carry out other duties within the scope of the grade and within the limits of their skill, competence and training.
- Posts are based in Southport and you will be expected to attend the office.

- Have proven ability to meet customer service targets and deadlines
- Have excellent written and oral communication skills, with a wide range of diverse customers
- Display excellent interpersonal skills and are flexible, adaptable and creative in solving problems and dealing with change
- Have a strong sense of personal ethics and honesty
- Demonstrate flexibility and be able to successfully perform a range of multi-skilled duties
- Show resilience and can work in a challenging and fast paced environment
**Desirable Criteria**
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel software (or willingness to acquire the appropriate skill level).
