**Job summary**:
As the UK’s regulator for the energy industry, Ofgem works on behalf of energy consumers to ensure that every household and business in the UK can rely on a safe, affordable and environmentally sustainable energy supply.

Our research helps Ofgem put consumers at the heart of our decisions. In this role you will explore, measure and track needs, attitudes, experiences and behaviours for different consumer groups on a diverse range of topics, providing robust evidence to underpin Ofgem’s policy decisions.

This is an incredibly interesting role, the work is high profile, topical and fast paced, as you will be commissioning and delivering research along the backdrop of an ever changing landscape. It is more important than ever before that we understand consumers' needs and experiences to protect their interests in these unprecedented times.

A well rounded researcher, you’ll have a solid understanding of, and practical experience with, qualitative and quantitative research approaches. You’ll be confident at analysing data and synthesising it across different sources to tell a story and present your findings.

You will be confident and proactive in engaging with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, tailoring your outputs so they are clear, accurate and engaging to a wide range of audiences.

Ofgem offers incredibly flexible and hybrid working practices, enabling you to manage your work/life balance successfully, and ensuring you can give your all to all aspects of your life.

You will be joining the multidisciplinary research and behavioural science team, a friendly, experienced and stable team that will support your learning and development so you can flourish in all aspects of the role and your career. You will also be part of the analysis profession, with a network across the whole of Ofgem.

If you are passionate about research and championing the needs of energy consumers and feeding this into wider company decisions and policy building, then we want to hear from you.

Ofgem has a culture of inclusion that encourages, supports and celebrates the diverse voices and experiences of our colleagues. It fuels our innovation and helps ensure we can best represent the consumers and the communities we serve. Everyone is welcome - as an inclusive workplace, our employees are comfortable bringing their authentic selves to work.

**Job description**:
Ofgem (Office of Gas and Electricity Markets) works on behalf of energy consumers to protect the interest of existing and future consumers. What we do matters: making a difference to people’s lives now, and for generations to come.

The energy system is undergoing a period of unprecedented change. Technological innovation, new business models and decarbonisation efforts mean that the energy system of the future will be very different from the one we have today. Working alongside government and industry, Ofgem has an integral role in facilitating the transition to a smart, flexible energy system and in helping to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. This is an exciting and challenging time for us. We must ensure that the regulatory framework is agile and adapts to the new challenges we expect to face in the coming years, yet still preserves our core functions of protecting consumers, ensuring effective competition and promoting security of supply.

Understanding energy consumers, their needs, attitudes, experiences, and behaviours in this context is absolutely essential. Joining our Consumer Insight and Behavioural Science team within the Office of Research & Economics, you will play an important role in helping to deliver our diverse programme of consumer research (with households and businesses).

Our research helps Ofgem puts consumers at the heart of our decisions. You will explore, measure and track needs, attitudes, experiences and behaviours for different consumer groups on a diverse range of topics, providing robust evidence to underpin Ofgem’s policy decisions and protect the interests of consumers now and in the future. Your research will address topical issues such as:

- Which consumers are facing energy affordability challenges?
- How have recent energy price increases impacted on consumers trust and engagement in the energy market?
- How are consumers’ attitudes to climate change and uptake of low carbon technologies (eg electric vehicles) changin
