We have an immediate opening for a highly motivated and experienced government affairs leader to join Microsoft’s Corporate, External and Legal Affairs team (CELA) in the UK. The Microsoft UK CELA team provides front-line legal, government relations and regulatory affairs support for Microsoft’s interests in the UK.

This role will work as part of a team supporting the Microsoft UK subsidiary at our offices in London and will report to the UK CELA General Manager. Over the past several years, the influence globally of the UK Government as steadily increased. UK policy across all Microsoft's priority policy areas is at or among the most developed globally, across competition, content and platform regulation, financial services regulation, news, sustainability and a range of other areas. In many of these areas, the UK Govt and its regulators are overt in stating their influence and sphere of operation is international.

**Responsibilities**:
Specific Duties:

- To manage and oversee the increasingly complex and international nature of this policy work, Microsoft is looking for an additional Government affairs leader. This is a new and senior role, reporting to the UK's General Manager for Corporate, External and Legal. The role will:

- Provide expert counsel to the UK's leadership team, the Corporate, External and Legal Affairs (CELA) team's leadership in Europe and globally, building a strong and collaborative relationship with the UK CEO and her team in advising on all aspects of Microsoft's government affairs strategy.
- Work highly collaboratively with the Government Affairs leaders in Washington DC and Brussels in addition to Microsoft's HQ in Redmond, Washington. We are deliberately looking for someone whose approach is system-wide with a focus on how the UK sits within the broader environment
- Drive forward specific policy briefs on behalf of the Corporation more broadly, assisting Government Affairs teams in other markets to advance their own policy discussions more rapidly and offering a first-start role in advancing new policy opportunities
- Be highly strategic, navigating a path forward for the Microsoft Corporation in the UK and beyond, within the new regulatory structures developed through the UK's domestic and international reach
- Lead strategic government affairs engagement with the UK business to drive system-wide advances in public sector business opportunity, collaborating closely with the Head of Commercial Legal and the UK Public Sector Lead to identify new market opportunities and align resources
- Manage an expanded UK Government Affairs team, as an experienced and strong people manager
- Drive specific areas of policy work forward as an individual contributor as well as a people manager, taking accountability for substantial policy briefs and advancing them independently

**Required Skills**:

- Highly strategic in approach, with a proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams across a range of complex and fluid policy environment
- Provides strategic vision and leadership for developing and executing top-priority program frameworks for achieving policy and/or political goals.
- Leads the formation of Microsoft’s policy agenda and positions on a broad range of issues, including designing and executing strategic campaigns, and identifying strategic opportunities for Microsoft to advance its long-term goals.
- Provides advice and counsel to management at the highest level on unusually complex and critical issues or matters of concern to Microsoft and the industry.
- Anticipates and addresses novel issues and opportunities facing Microsoft and/or the industry in a rapidly changing and ambiguous environment and leads the development of associated strategies.
- Designs and directs strategies to ensure regulations and legislation positively impact Microsoft's products, operations, associates, and customers by collaborating with coalitions and relevant interest groups to achieve desired regulatory or legislative outcomes; negotiates and aligns complex or conflicting policy with Microsoft's goals and strategy; monitors and responds to complex regulatory issues and new policies.
