**Salary**:NJC scale 17-20, starting salary, £28, 769 - £30, 295 (full-time equivalent)

**Actual salary, £23,015 - £24,236**

**A bit about the role**

The primary role of a Young Carers Worker is to work with young carers using an outcome-focused approach to help them have the same opportunities as other children and young people. You will support the whole family to promote positive relationships and gain insight into family roles and responsibilities to empower change in the caring role (when appropriate). You will also support young carers in a group setting to allow young carers to take time away from caring and socialise with other children.

You will proactively collaborate with relevant organisations in Newcastle to identify, inform and support young carers.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Undertake statutory young carers assessments (training will be given).
- Provide young carers and their families with information, advice and support.
- Identify and address the needs of young carers and their families (including identifying inappropriate caring tasks) to empower them to achieve positive outcomes.
- Carry a caseload and keep accurate records using Newcastle Carers IT systems (training will be given).
- Attend relevant meetings to informally advocate for young carers and their families, ensuring their needs are considered.
- Work in partnership with relevant organisations to ensure whole family support is being provided and encourage referrals to Newcastle Carers.
- Involve young carers in planning activities, groups and events to ensure they meet the needs of children and young people accessing the service.
- Support the facilitation of group sessions for young carers alongside the Groups and Activities Team.
- Follow the organisation’s safeguarding policy to keep young carers and families safe.

**Other Duties**:

- Contribute to the delivery of Newcastle Carers' goals and objectives by efficiently supporting the Chief Executive Officer and staff team.
- Attend meetings, forums and events relevant to the post as agreed.
- Maintain appropriate knowledge of equality and diversity.
- Attend and participate in regular supervision and to work to agreed targets.
- Undertake any related administrative duties.
- Work within the practice and policies of Newcastle Carers.
- Participate in approved training events to enhance your learning.
- Such other duties as directed where appropriate to the post.

**Person Specification**

**Knowledge, Experience and Skills**
- Experience of working with children, young people and their families.
- Educated to NVQ level 3 or above (or equivalent experience).
- Experience of managing a varied and challenging workload, including carrying a personal caseload.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to deliver clear and concise information.
- Ability to build rapport with people of all ages, including establishing mutual trust with young people and their families.
- A strong team member in a supportive team but can also work independently.
- Experience of facilitating/running group sessions for children and young people.
- Confident using IT systems, preferable with experience of using Microsoft 365, including Word, Outlook, Excel and Teams
- Strong commitment to equality and diversity. Recognise, respect and value difference.
- Knowledge and experience of working practices within any Health, Social Care and Education setting.
- Knowledge and understanding of the voluntary and community sector.
