Dorset HealthCare is the first mental health trust providing community services in the South to be given an Outstanding rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) - and one of only a small handful nationally.
We are proud to be part of the wider CAMH service in Dorset and all it has achieved in recent years, with its progress and developments being demonstrable. Currently our CAMHS community services are rated Good and our CAMHS inpatient unit is rated as Outstanding. We have been fast tracked by NHSE to deliver New Care Models providing a closer to home crisis home treatment service. We are also part of the national trailblazer to deliver Mental Health Support Teams in schools across 3 pilot sites in Dorset. In addition, NHSE have commissioned Dorset Healthcare to build a new state of the art 8 bed PICU.
We currently provide the following CAMHS services across Dorset:
- 6 Community teams
- 10 Bed adolescent inpatient unit
- Dedicated CAMHS psychiatric liaison services within 3 acute hospitals -Out of Hours crisis service
- Discovery college
- Peer specialists working within our community and inpatient teams
As part of the many exciting developments within CAMHS, Dorset HealthCare has set up a brand new ‘Front Door’ service to the current Core CAMHS teams, focusing on the assessment of young people and providing brief clinical intervention. This is a full time role of 37.5hours, part time hours will also be considered.

We have an exciting opportunity for experienced Mental Health Practitioner to join our team as a CAMHS Community Practitioner. We have a full time and part time permanent positions available in the service. You will be responsible for assessing new young people coming through the service, holding a clinical caseload of people undertaking short term, evidence based interventions in line with our care pathways and providing some duty cover when needed. We work a mix of digital, face-to-face and home working. You will work closely with the wider team providing a high quality of care ensuring high standards of clinical practice when working with all young people and their families/carers.
Whilst the main service base is in Bournemouth, the team covers the county of Dorset so various base hubs are available across the region. We are looking for practitioners who would like to work in the rural areas of Dorset such as West, Weymouth and Portland, North Dorset and East Dorset.
Relocation
Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.
