We are looking for a senior journalist to be a key member of the TV news team, which produces Reporting Scotland, The Nine and The Seven.
It’s an exciting time to join. Over the next few months we will be extending Reporting Scotland to an hour long programme, when there’s significant news to report. The Nine will be replaced by a new half hour news programme on the BBC Scotland channel. At the same time we will be creating a new podcast, which will go across a variety of platforms.

Your editorial experience also means you will be outputting programmes. You’ll guide a team of journalists and technical staff to deliver your vision.
We want to hear from you even if you haven’t worked in TV. We will provide you with the technical training to get you up to speed. What’s more important is that you come to the role with good news judgement, loads of creative ideas, and an enthusiasm for how we are shaping the programmes we produce.
The role requires taking on a variety of shifts and weekend working.
**Main Responsibilities**:
- Responsible for originating and producing stories which may include scripting, editing, and outputting a range of BBC output.
- Commission and select relevant materials ensuring they meet expectations of our audiences and adhere to the BBC’s editorial guidelines.
- Allocate work to a team and check progress; ensure the professional contribution of staff and the quality of output.
- Deliver journalism of the highest standard and within the required timeframe using available resources..
- Delivering to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards.
- A high standard of editorial judgment, writing ability and production skills based on substantial broadcast journalism experience.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of more than one team. Resolving conflicts as necessary.
- Ability to manage resources, staff, and technical facilities, in order to make challenging broadcasting in the most cost effective manner.
- Prioritises and plans activities taking into account all the relevant issues and factors such as deadlines, staffing and resources.
- Ability to write creatively in an engaging manner, adapt, produce and translate with accuracy, clarity and style appropriate to differing audiences and forms of media suitable for multimedia output.
- The flexibility and adaptability to sustain performance, particularly under pressure to meet deadlines and changing priorities and circumstances.
**About the BBC**:
We don’t focus simply on what we do - we also care how we do it. Our values and the way we behave are important to us. Please make sure you’ve read about our values and behaviours here.
Diversity matters at the BBC. We have a working environment where we value and respect every individual's unique contribution, enabling all of our employees to thrive and achieve their full potential.
