**Babcock International and Devonport** The Senior Buyer role is based within our Devonport Royal Dockyard business area.

Comprising of 14 dry docks, four miles of waterfront and 25 tidal berths, Devonport is the base for numerous surface vessels as well as the base and refit centre for the Trafalgar-class nuclear-powered submarines. Devonport has also recently been selectedas the base port for the Navy's new Type 26 frigates and will become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme.

**The role
The difference our newSenior Buyerwill make** As a Senior Buyer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. We are looking for talented people to join our team with the ability to assist in the creation of significant value for the business through the reduction of total cost of bought goods andservices.

Day to day, you will be responsible for the management and mentoring of a team of Buyers encouraging lean thinking and a continuous improvement culture. Moreover, this will include core procurement duties of preparing, issuing and reviewing supplier RFQs,recommending preferred options to the relevant stakeholders based on the assessment of different metrics. This will also include converting purchase requisitions to purchase orders and issuing to suppliers, negotiating appropriate T&Cs for the protection ofthe organisation. In addition, you will be required to understand and implement contract requirements and relevant special conditions. Lastly, you will manage and develop supplier relationships, alongside pro-active supplier order book management.

**Essential experience**:

- Recognised degree level qualification and/or relevant engineering/supply chain/lean culture experience
- Membership of a relevant professional body, e.g. CIPS level 4 or above
- Experience in an operational procurement environment (desirable)
- Experience in sourcing new materials and services
- **Valid or ability to obtain SC Security Clearance**
