Purpose of the Job
- To help in developing an attractive portfolio of courses as well as varied scope for employability opportunities.
- To provide pastoral and academic support to undergraduate and postgraduate students, including supervision of projects.
- To perform administrative tasks effectively as designated by the Head of School.
For those appointed to a teaching & research contract, to conduct research of an international standard in a relevant field, with substantial evidence of quality and international peer recognition.
Main
**Responsibilities**:
Teaching duties will include:
- Planning, preparing and delivering lectures and seminars at undergraduate and postgraduate level, including LLB and LLM courses, responding effectively to a variety of student backgrounds, learning styles and class sizes including delivery of quality modules that attract, engage and retain students;
- Motivating students to proactive engagement in learning, and providing meaningful and constructive feedback on the quality of their work within agreed time constraints;
- Examining and supervising / co-supervising students at undergraduate and postgraduate level;
- Keeping abreast of new professional, educational and related social, economic and professional developments;
- Ensuring that all students are provided with a supportive learning environment and provide advice and guidance to individual students as their personal tutor;
- Participating in Quality Enhancement procedures;
- Contributing to the teaching and assessment of the School’s portfolio of Law modules and programmes at various levels according to the needs of the School, including designing, developing and delivery of a range of teaching materials for study at various levels;
- Initiating and taking forward the development of new programmes that will appeal to a wider market;
- Building links with external agencies to provide work experience for students that could lead towards them gaining an additional professionally recognised qualification.
Additional duties for those appointed to a Teaching and Scholarship contract will include:
- Maintain and develop Scholarly activities in line with University and College strategies;
- Depending on profile, publish evidence of scholarship related to learning and teaching in books, articles and/or papers in academic journals.
Research duties for those appointed to a Teaching and Research contract will include:
- Personal research, and/or collaborative research with colleagues in the School or across the College / University;
- Contributing to the research environment of the School through publication, conference contributions, research seminars and other research activities;
- Contributing to research groups / networks internally or externally to the School and / or University;
- Engaging in grant capture activities and contributing towards the School’s capability to attract external research funding;
- Liaising with national research bodies to identify future research requirements;
- Generating impact of scholarly activity beyond academia;
- Supervision of research students;
- Engaging in scholarly and other relevant professional activities.
Administrative duties will include:
- Participating in the student recruitment and induction procedures of the School;
- Contributing to the School’s management, and participate in the administration of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes;
- Contributing to the marketing of programmes by participating in School and College link activities and other marketing initiatives;
- Taking responsibility for specific modules as appropriate, working towards ensuring optimum module evaluation results;
- Maintaining accurate records and contributing to the working of the committee structures of the School and College;
- Taking responsibility for an area of academically related administration;
- Contributing to the organisation of School conferences and/or research seminars;
- Liaising and working with other staff positively within the College and the University, and other bodies as required;
- Creating links with external agencies and employers to develop and deliver work placements;
- Undertaking other administrative duties and responsibilities as directed by the Head of School.
