Overview
Purpose of the Job
- To teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including supervision of dissertation projects and students.
- To develop teaching materials or methodologies, including supporting the planning and design of existing degrees, and developing modules in the areas of Criminal Law, Evidence and Criminal Justice.
- To provide pastoral and academic support to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- To conduct research of an international standard in a relevant field, with substantial evidence of quality and international peer recognition.
- To perform administrative duties effectively as designated by the Head of School.
Main
**Responsibilities**:
Grade 7 Lecturer
- Teaching duties will include:
- Plan, prepare and deliver lectures and tutorials, responding effectively to a variety of student backgrounds, learning styles and class sizes;
- Contribute to teaching on existing and new policing degrees as well as existing undergraduate and postgraduate criminology degrees, including designing, developing and delivery of a range of teaching materials;
- Motivate students to proactive engagement in learning, and provide meaningful and constructive feedback on the quality of their work;
- Keep abreast of new professional, educational and related social, economic and technological developments;
- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate projects;
- Act as personal tutor to a number of undergraduate and postgraduate students, providing advice, guidance and support;
- Contribute to the development of new programmes and module co-ordination;
- Maintain and develop Scholarly activities in line with University and College strategies;
- Publish evidence of scholarship related to learning and teaching in books, articles and/or papers in academic journals.
Research duties will include:
- Personal research, and/or collaborative research with colleagues in the School or across the College / University;
- Managing one’s own research projects, with an emphasis on research output of a quality and quantity to contribute positively to future Research Excellence Frameworks
- Contributing to the research environment of the School through publication, conference contributions, research seminars and other research activities;
- Contributing to research groups / networks internally or externally to the School and / or University;
- Contributing towards the School’s capability to attract external research funding;
- Supervision of research students;
- Engaging in scholarly and other relevant professional activities.
- Administrative and Wider Contribution duties will include:
- Participate in the student recruitment and induction procedures of the School (e.g. School and University Open Days);
- Contribute to the School's management, and participate in the administration of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (e.g. organisation of exams, contribute to accreditation/QA procedures (if module co-ordinator);- Contribute to the marketing of programmes by participating in School and College link activities and other marketing initiatives;
- Undertake other administrative duties and responsibilities as directed by the Head of School (e.g. membership of School boards and task groups, addressing/supporting under graduate and postgraduate student experience).
Grade 8 Lecturer
- Teaching duties will include, in addition to the above:
- Initiating and taking forward the development of new programmes that will appeal to a wider market;
- Building links with external agencies to provide work experience for students that could lead towards them gaining an additional professionally recognised qualification.
Research duties will include, in addition to the above:
- Engaging with / leading grant capture activities and contributing towards the School’s capability to attract external research funding;
- Liaising with national research bodies to identify future research requirements;
- Generating impact of scholarly activity beyond academia.
Administrative duties will include, in addition to the above:
- Contributing to the organisation of School conferences and/or research seminars.
- Liaising and working with other staff positively within the College and the University, and other bodies as required;
- Leadership of areas of academically related administration;
- Creating links with external agencies and employers.
