CPFT are expanding their patient safety and quality portfolio and have generated two very exciting roles: Mental Health Patient Safety Specialist and Physical Health Patient Safety Specialist. Both roles are dedicated to providing expert knowledge in Mental Health & Physical Health and to support CPFT to facilitate the escalation of patient safety issues or concerns. This is a key role in the development of a patient safety and learning culture within the organisation. This role will lead on CPFT patient safety and quality priorities such as Sexual Safety, restrictive practice (Mental Health Patient Safety Specialist) and Falls and pressure ulcer management (Physical Health Patient Safety Specialist) using quality improvement methodology as well as working closely with the patient safety team to implement the NHS Patient Safety Strategy.

The mental health patientsafetyspecialist has responsibility for / oversight of the implementation of the NHS patient safety strategy within the organisation. They will provide patient safety expertise/leadership within the organisation, demonstrating compassionate leadership, visibility and supporting the continued development of the patient safety culture.
You will be working collaboratively with the Patient Safety Specialist (Physical Health), directorates, PMO and digital teams to promote a learning organisation.

**The Mental Health Patient Safety Specialist will**:
- Lead and implement governance structures to provide assurance of the implementation and monitoring of the strategy. This includes the examination, analysis, interpretation, and effective use of data related to restrictive practices.
- Lead on the development and implementation of a reducing restrictive interventions
- Utilise quality improvement methodology to lead and coach local improvement programmes linked to restrictive practices (i.e. programmes to reduce use or to meet certain standards).
- In conjunction with key stakeholders, responsible for developing policy and practice in line with the principles of reducing restrictive practices and promoting recovery.
- Act as a trust representative at regional and national networks and meetings related to the reduction of restrictive interventions and development and monitoring of national standards.
- This role will develop and implement a quality improvement (QI) programme in conjunction with the Quality Improvement Leads and Directorate colleagues which supports the quality of care provided by the organisation. This will be achieved by the provision of specialist knowledge, direction and leadership in the implementation of using quality improvement methodology. This will include the planning, development and facilitation of training and awareness raising, supporting staff to lead quality improvement initiatives.
- The post holder will have the skills to support improvement work through the knowledge of QI methods.
- The post holder will work collaboratively to actively promote the Mental Health Nursing standard
