My First 1000 Days project
Do you have a passion for people and care about helping others? Are you interested in improving the health and well-being of families living in disadvantaged communities? Do you have experience supporting families to thrive?
This role will be based on the university campus and will involve working in various community-based sites across Leeds. We are open to discussing flexible working arrangements.
My First 1000 Days is a transformational initiative from the University of Leeds. Researchers from across the University, practitioners who work with families and experts-by-experience (families themselves) are coming together to develop, deliver and evaluate a disability-inclusive family group care programme, to be delivered in communities. The approach will be family-centred and strength-based.
The group-learning and activity programme will empower families, supporting them to work together to gain knowledge and confidence about (1) healthy food and nutrition; (2) physical activity (parents and infants); (3) supporting their child’s language and cognitive development.
As Senior My First 1000 Days Family Wellbeing (FW) Worker, you will lead a small team working across two areas of Leeds, to help ‘deliver’ (organise, facilitate and support) a 6-month programme with families of infants (from 6 weeks old). You will work collaboratively with your colleague FW Workers and wider team. A major aspect of your role will be to facilitate group-learning and activity sessions. These sessions will cover a range of topics, which align with the projects workstreams. You will support families to navigate parenthood, adopting and promoting the project’s core value of ensuring that sessions are inclusive for all families, including disabled families and are strengths-based.
As part of the role, you will receive internal and external training to enable you to deliver the group care programme effectively and with confidence.
You will also work closely with the research team at the University of Leeds to: (1) refine content and design of the group sessions, contributing your insights and expertise; (2) recruit and engage families to participate in the group care sessions; (3) collect data (using easy-to-administer tools designed by the team) to help evaluate the programme; and (4) contribute to th development of training materials to expand the project’s reach beyond Leeds.
