**The College**

**The Role**

OIC Brighton’s Global Strategic Pathways model aims to prepare all pupils for top university destinations whilst ensuring the highest levels of personal development. Wellbeing is central to our approach at OIC Brighton and the boarding team is the frontline of pastoral care for our majority international full boarders.

Boarding assistants will be expected to contribute to the wider life of the College through clubs, activities and supervision duties. Boarding assistants contribute to evening and weekend activity programmes and accompany students on trips and visits.

This role represents a growth in the boarding team, as the College’s boarding provision expands from 2 to 3 boarding houses. Each boarding house is staffed by a houseparent and boarding assistants, who work on a rota to ensure adequate supervision of the boarding students throughout the week.

**Responsibilities**

The following list is intended to be indicative and is not exhaustive; the duties and responsibilities of the role may change according to the needs of the College:

- Participate in an ‘on call’ and ‘on duty’ rota to supervise boarding areas;
- Support with attendance duties, taking registers and maintaining records;
- Communicate with parents and guardians regarding a student’s progress, wellbeing and whereabouts;
- Communicate with the academic team regarding a student’s progress, wellbeing and whereabouts;
- Act as the first point of call for students when on duty, responding to needs including safeguarding, health and behaviour and following protocol in the case of an emergency;
- Support the houseparent in managing the behaviour within the boarding house, ensuring that all student adhere to College rules;
- Support the houseparent in ensuring that common areas are clean, tidy and safe;
- Participate in fire and evacuation drills;
- Administer medication as directed and keep relevant records;
- Undertake training in first aid, safeguarding, fire safety and other relevant areas;
- Run evening and weekend activities for boarders, participating in the running of interhouse competitions;
- Accompany boarders on trips offsite and if needed to medical appointments;
- Work as part of a team on admissions days such as open days and visits;
- Work as a part of a team on arrivals and departure days, ensuring the smooth processes of induction and departures;
- Undertake regular checks of boarding rooms and common areas including cleanliness, smoke detectors, electronics etc.;
- Adhere to the College’s staff code of conduct.

**The Person**
- Be willing to undertake relevant professional qualifications in areas including but not limited to: first aid; health and safety; boarding practice and safeguarding;
- Show excellent insights into keeping children safe and meeting their needs;
- Demonstrate experience in maintaining professional boundaries;
- Have excellent working relationships and enjoy being part of a dynamic and supportive team;
- Be passionate about pastoral care;
- Demonstrate experience in supporting and guiding young people;
- Be willing to contribute to the development, growth and success of the boarding team and the wider College;
- Have a sense of fun, flexibility and a readiness to respond to students’ needs with enthusiasm and openness;
- Be willing to become part of our community of aspirational, outward looking, internationally-minded staff and students;
- Have wider skills and interests which will contribute to the super curricular and pastoral life of the College;
- Demonstrate excellent customer service;
- Be computer literate with excellent organisational skills;
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

**Experience and Qualifications**
- Experience in a residential and / or pastoral role is an advantage;
- Excellent references;
- Clean DBS check or equivalent;
**Role**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: OIC Brighton has its own salary scale (comparable to, or above the national scale) and pension scheme.
