Job overview

We are looking to recruit Health Care Support Workers to support our nursing team on The Acute Medical Unit (AMU) which is a busy 48 bedded unit. We look after patients with a variety of acute medical conditions who are generally admitted to us from A&E or their own homes. You will report directly to the senior nurses in charge of the unit. AMU is one of the few areas in the hospital that have senior nurse covering the unit 24/7.

This really is a unique opportunity for those who are looking to pursue a career in a hospital setting. We’d love to show you around so you can see for yourself. Informal visits are welcome, please contact the unit and speak to any of the Senior Nursing Team.

The part you play

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are motivated, friendly and highly driven to deliver high standards of quality care to our patients. The role will require shift working including rotation onto nights. You will receive support from the senior nursing team to develop in your role.

You will be someone who works well under pressure, is a great team player as well as being self-motivated and able to work independently when needed. You’ll be someone who truly understands the need for care, consideration and respect for our patients but also applies these qualities to your team members.

A ‘can do’ attitude and determination to be flexible and embrace change to deliver the best patient care is essential as well as a desire to grow and improve our ever growing service.

Your communication skills will be second to none, working collaboratively with patients, relatives/carers and Colleagues to help plan a safe and seamless journey home.

**Qualifications**:
Essential criteria
- Care Certificate either upon appointment or within 12 weeks of commencement
- Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy (GCSE English and Maths Grade D-G)

Desirable criteria
- NVQ Level 2 in Healthcare or a Level 2 Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship already achieved

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential criteria
- Experience of working with members of the public or a desire to work in the Health Service
- Understanding of routine work procedures gained through a short induction period and on the job training.

Desirable criteria
- Experience of working within a health or social care environment
- Experience of working within a team

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
- Good communication skills
- Basic IT skills

Desirable criteria
- Good organisational skills
- Commitment to undertaking continuous professional development (CPD)
