**About the Role**:
As an **Attendance and Welfare Officer**, you will play a key role in improving student attendance and punctuality across the school. Working closely with pastoral teams and school leadership, your goal will be to implement strategies that enhance attendance, reduce persistent absenteeism, and support students to achieve their full potential.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Lead the drive to improve student attendance, working towards set targets.
- Collaborate with pastoral staff, Deputy Headteachers, and Key Stage Coordinators to address attendance and behaviour issues.
- Attend meetings with parents, carers, and external agencies such as Local Authorities, Police, and Social Services.
- Conduct home visits and provide support to families, particularly those with Pupil Premium students, to encourage regular attendance.
- Manage attendance processes including Children Missing Education (CME), elective home education, and leave of absence requests.
- Analyze attendance data daily to identify trends and implement interventions.
- Communicate with parents/carers regarding absences, lateness, and truancy, including sending letters and making calls.
- Ensure legal processes are followed for persistent absenteeism, including potential fines or court action.
**About You**:
- ** Essential Qualifications & Experience**:
- GCSEs in English and Mathematics (or equivalent).
- Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
- Good IT skills, including experience with Microsoft Office and specialist school software (e.g., SIMS, CPOMS).
- Knowledge of government legislation related to school attendance.
- Ability to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines with accuracy.
- A passion for education and making a difference in young people’s lives.
- **Desirable**:
- Experience working within a school or educational setting, particularly in an attendance team.
