The Royal free has a busy Liver Transplant and HPB surgical Unit and is one of the most prestigious medical institutions in the United Kingdom. The work of the unit consists of complex biliary and pancreatic procedures, liver resections, abdominal sarcomas, and liver transplantation. The specialist nature of the work includes mínimal access surgery and a living related liver transplantation programme.

This post is EWTD compliant and attracts a banding of 1A. It is not recognised by the Deanery for training, however, opportunities may be available for some of the post-holders to join the active postgraduate research programme within the department including, where appropriate, registration for a higher degree.
