Grounds Maintenance Operative

**The Role**:
Undertake a range of grounds maintenance and repair duties associated with the running of the site at Risehow Hydraulics Centre, Units 6 and 8 Leconfield Industrial Estate, Cleator Moor, and other locations as agreed.

**General Duties**
- Grass cutting, strimming and weed control (if licenced).
- Tidying sites including picking up rubbish and preventing the build-up of waste.
- Basic repairs and maintenance of buildings and equipment.
- Helping to keep the yards organised.
- Cleaning and pressure washing.
- Provision of general labour as required on projects.
- Purchasing and local collection of ad hoc materials as required for the role and for the business.
- Assisting with deliveries.
- Maintaining tools and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Responsibility for the daily upkeep of a company vehicle. Reporting vehicle faults and damage in a timely manner.
- Ensure the department is active in the cost-effective use of resources.
- Operate within the scope of Forth’s policies and the law.

- Undertake any other duties as consistent with the post.

**OTHER SPECIFIC DUTIES**

The Company may, at its discretion require you to take any duties it considers appropriate to the role, this may include relocation to another site or division of the Company.

**Health and Safety**
- Ensure a safe working environment by adhering to Forth’s Health and Safety policy, systems and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety legislation
- Establish that all equipment, plant and substances used are suitable for the task and are kept in good working condition; this includes the regular maintenance and servicing of equipment
- Take immediate and appropriate steps to report any risks to health and safety arising from the work activity.

**Person Specification**
- Excellent practical skills and demonstrable experience of safe ways of working.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals and groups.
- Ability to manage systems that would underpin safe and efficient maintenance operations.
- An ability to work to deadlines.

**PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE**
- Experience gained in grounds-keeping, basic repairs and maintenance.
- Experience gained in industry to ensure full compliance and adherence to all H&S issues.
- Experience of looking after a company vehicle.

**KNOWLEDGE**
- Knowledge of grounds maintenance procedures.
- Knowledge of building and mechanical maintenance (desirable).

**QUALIFICATIONS**

(Educational and Vocational)
- Recognised practical qualifications.
- Workplace Health and Safety Certificates such as IOSH Working Safely
- Telehandler certificates (desirable)
- Workplace First Aid Certificates (desirable)
- Use of Pesticides qualification (desirable)

**OTHER FACTORS**
- Ability to work outdoors in different weather types e.g. cold/sun/rain.
- Willingness to be flexible to help the organisation meet changing demands.
- An interest in the work of Forth is essential as is a commitment to its values.
- Current full driving licence.
