**About the Service/Department**

Working within Hestia’s crisis alternative operational team, the Café will provide a safe, welcoming and non-clinical environment to support people who are experiencing psychological distress. The primary aim is to provide an alternative community setting for people in a mental health crisis, who may otherwise attend A&E or access other urgent and emergency services.

This Café is part of a network of Crisis Cafés/Havens/Houses run by Hestia in locations across London and Kent. The team will further benefit from the support of an Area Manager, Head of Mental Health and the Regional Director of Operations

**About the role**

Working closely with the local management team, other recovery workers and peer support you will deliver interventions and support in the recovery focused Camden Crisis Sanctuary. The sanctuary supports adults who are experiencing a MH crisis to develop self - management skills and resilience. The ability to work flexibly including primarily out of hours working during the evening, weekends and bank holidays to support the delivery of the Crisis Sanctuary is essential. The hours of operational delivery are 17:00 - 23:00 x 7 days a week.

Some other main responsibilities of the role include:

- To motivate people using the Café to identify causes of crises and to prevent these issues triggering crisis in the future
- To develop simple yet effective support, safety and wellbeing plans with the individual users to proactively manage their mental health and wellbeing and to avoid the use of crisis services such as A&E
- To carry out individual one to one session and, where appropriate, to support them to develop their own wellness, recovery action plan

**About you**
- Demonstrable experience of working with individuals who have experienced mental health issues and / or dual diagnosis issues
- Knowledge of issues affecting those individuals with a range of mental health conditions, how to communicate effectively with these individuals and how to support them with dignity and respect
- Understanding of the principles of recovery as an ethos and a range of recovery approaches
- Ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative
- Awareness of health and safety issues
- Demonstrative commitment to co-producing service delivery with service users by ensuring that activity is aligned to support them to reduce MH crisis and develop strategies for better mental health and wellbeing in the future
- Motivation to maintain professional standards at all times within the service and ability to use peer and management support to maintain resilience and provide a whole team approach
- Instinctively remain positive and open to changes that will have a positive impact on their support delivery and ultimately the people using the Café
- Good IT skills that include a working knowledge of functions in MS Word, Outlook, and the internet
- Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding issues and ability to address them appropriately
