Our client within the Education sector is looking for a Payroll Manager to manage a payroll of c400 employees on a sole basis.

**JOB PURPOSE**

The Payroll Manager manages the payroll operations of the school ensuring that each stage of the payroll process is successfully completed, that all employees are paid correctly, and providing a professional and friendly in-house service.

They ensure appropriate controls are in place, in line with best practice, that timely, accurate information is provided to external parties, ensuring compliance, and efficiently rectifying any errors.

The Payroll Manager is part of the Finance team, currently comprised of the Director of Finance and Business Enterprise, the Head of Financial Operations, a Financial Controller and a team of finance officers.

**MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Providing a friendly, efficient and professional to service to employees on payroll related queries;
- Leading the end-to-end payroll for the school;
- Checking of all timesheets for accuracy and completeness;
- Completing starters and leavers processes, ensuring contracts are signed appropriately and are accurate;
- Maintaining payroll records in line with procedures, enforcing established payroll related policies, procedures, and regulations;
- Dealing with associated payroll calculations and payments for SMP, SSP, SPP etc;
- Coordinating financial and calendar year end processing of payroll including HMRC returns;
- Administering the school’s pension schemes;
- Ensuring monthly and periodic statutory submissions are completed accurately and on time, including TPC, auto-enrolment, RTI, HMRC and pensions returns;
- Liaising with HR to complete the payroll in an accurate and timely manner;
- Undertaking monthly checks and reconciliations;
- Payroll year end procedures;
- Keeping up to date with relevant payroll legislation and taking appropriate action.

**ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Deputising for and supporting other members of the Finance team in a range of finance officer tasks;
- Leading on and implementing relevant upgrade and maintenance works to the payroll/HR system;
- To help develop and implement a new payroll system ;
- Administering the School’s private health care and other employee benefit schemes;
- Supporting the implementation of the School’s HR policies and procedures;
- Undertaking any other reasonable tasks as directed by the Director of Finance and Business Enterprise, the Head of Financial Operations, including deputising for other colleagues across a range of functions.

- Good time management skills and the ability to work to set deadlines.
- Ability to balance working effectively in a small team with working alone on key delegated responsibilities
- Familiarity with statutory requirements for payroll deductions and reporting, or an ability to rapidly transfer your skills to this area.
- Highly numerate with strong problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of payroll software and previous experience in running payroll
- Committed to confidentiality and discretion at all times

**Desirable**
- Experience of having worked in a school environment.
- Experience of implementing a new payroll system

**Working Hours**

This is a year-round post. The working hours are typically from 09.00 to 17.00 Monday to Friday, with a lunchbreak. Some flexibility on working hours and patterns may be possible.
