Specialist Dementia Lead

**Overview of role and responsibilities**
- **Prior experience of social care is essential for this role.**
- Develop and align Dementia strategies to support the objectives of the business
- Lead the development and implementation of dementia care policies, protocols and guidance based on research and best practice
- Management and delivery of ad hoc projects in line with the strategic objectives of the business
- Attend and contribute to Quality team and Regional Management Meetings providing information, insight and advice as required
- Provide coaching, advice and guidance to Colleagues on good Dementia practices
- Provide practical advice and support to the homes, operational colleagues and functional teams to support high quality dementia care, particularly for residents living with complex needs
- Provide support and advice to managers for people living with dementia who experience distressed behaviours.
- Provide a training programme across the company in person centred dementia care
- Manage and maintain strong relationships with all internal and external stakeholders
- Promote Values based culture and behaviours aligned to Akari Care Values
- Monitoring and delivery of KPIs and other data, and provision of insight
- Keep updated via external networks on sector developments and share best practice across our homes
- Work with estates team in respect of dementia design, based on research, innovation and best practice
- Provide guidance and support on appropriate activities for our residents
- Engage with care partners and provide sessions which they can attend
**Person specification**
- Proven communicator with ability to build strong relationships at all levels of the business and foster cross functional collaboration
- Ability to work in partnership with regional and other stakeholders
- Ability to influence at all levels, both internally and externally
- An initiative-taking attitude and a passion for collaborating with people and leading with integrity
- Collaborator hands on, sleeves up approach
- Flexible approach to working hours and able to travel to homes to provide training, guidance and support
- Highly developed verbal and written reporting skills to inform and explain succinctly
- Able to prioritise work based on deadlines and importance
- A proven problem solver proactive in identifying issues, recommending solutions and implementing agreed recommendations
**Necessary skills and qualifications**
- Appropriate professional qualification/registration.
- Evidence of further professional development in relation to dementia care.
- Understanding of regulatory requirements for both England and Wales.
- Experience of teaching
- Full UK driving licence and the ability to travel as required.
