Medical Receptionist

Ø To receive patients on arrival and, log arrivals on to computer screen and ensure that urgent cases are seen as appropriate
Ø Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover, ensure procedures are completed
Ø Advise patients of relevant charges for private services accept payment and issue receipts for same
Ø Respond to all queries and requests for assistance from patients and other visitors
Ø Enter requests for home visits into visit log on the computer system and including all relevant information such as address, reason for request and urgency. Refer to duty doctor where necessary
Ø When required, action requests for ambulance transportation and enter details in appropriate book
Ø To check notifications and tasks and ensure that information about any unresolved or urgent matter is passed on to colleagues
Ø To check waiting areas after each session and ensure reception and waiting areas are kept neat and tidy
Ø To make tea and coffee for members of the team as required and ensure that kitchen is kept clean and tidy
Ø Take deliveries over the counter and take them to their required destination, this task will involve some minor lifting
Ø To photocopy practice leaflets, patient notes and other information as required
Ø To supply patients with information forms to update when required and input data onto the clinical system
Ø To check all patient telephone numbers when speaking to patients and ensure the records are up-to-date
Ø Register new patients and enter the Health Information Form data onto the computer system
Ø Action change of addresses, using the appropriate forms and update information on the computer system
**Management of appointment system**:
Ø Ensure total familiarity with the appointment system including regular and incidental variations
Ø Book appointments for patients using computerised system
**Management of medical records**
Ø Retrieve and file records as required, ensuring that strict alphabetical order is adhered to and that coloured markers are used
Ø Ensure records are kept neat and tidy and in good repair with all necessary information recorded correctly on the outer cover
**Operation of telephone system**
Ø Receive and make calls as required. Divert calls and take messages as appropriate
Ø Ensure that system is operational at the beginning of each day and switched over to night service at the end of each day, which happens automatically, with the exception of Encircle dates and Bank Holidays, which need to be manually switched over and switched back.
**Start and end of day procedures**
Ø Open up premises at the start of day and make all necessary preparation to receive patients
Ø Follow end of day procedures and ensure that offices and consulting rooms are checked, computers switched off and windows closed. Secure premises at end of the day
**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent
Pay: £10.65-£12.32 per hour
Expected hours: 16 per week
