C. R. Atkinson & Sons Limited are actively looking for a person to join our busy office team at Newton Aycliffe as a Trainee Site Estimator.

Although the job will become a full-time position, to start with we are offering the vacancy on a 3 month trial, during which the Company and yourself can decide if the job is right for you.

We are a family run timber staircase manufacturing company and have been established for more than 70 years. We pride ourselves in our products and are very customer based. We have excellent job/employee retention.

Applicants must have a clean driving licence and have a GCSE Maths & English of Grade C and above or equivalent.

The role of Trainee Site Estimator can and will involve all sorts of tasks including (but not limited to):
Dealing with customers both in person and on the telephone.

Taking enquiries

Visiting site to discuss requirements, options, specifications, and to take appropriate measurements. Site can include new build sites, nursing homes, hotels and also peoples homes who are looking to replace their existing staircase or go up into their loft space. You will need to be physically fit as you may be required to climb ladders and climb through tight openings to take the appropriate measurements.

Transferring the information you have taken onto our staircase programme, which will produce a drawing, quotation, and eventually the workshop cutting list for the factory to manufacture the staircase from.

Filing.

Getting to know the products - this could involve working in the workshop for a short while - to sell a staircase and the components, it’s best if you know how they are made right through from timber selection to machining and the assembly.

Full training will be given on all aspects and will mean you are shadowing both Duncan & Joseph Atkinson until they and you feel capable of coping on your own.

If during any period you feel like you are struggling or don’t understand please ask, we would much prefer to show you again and again rather than you struggle along and not understand what or why you are doing something.

The normal hours are Monday to Friday 9am until 5pm with a 30minute lunch break. Depending on how your day is running your hours could run over the 5pm finish (it’s rare but if traffic is bad or a job is awkward can happen).

Starting wage will be at the current minimum wage depending on your age.

We have set holidays, which means the whole of the factory closes and we are all off at the same time. Once these holidays are set, there is no deviation from them. Dates for this year will be issued upon job offer/acceptance.
